I was wondering where most people get there oil changed. I call the dealer and they said the prowler takes a full syenthic oil. I wanted to know if it would be best to take it to the dealer. The dealer stated 125.00 for a oil change because of full syenthic oil. The place I normally go to get it changed stated it would be 35.00 for casterol semi syenthic. please advise thanks.

Changing your own oil and filter is the best way,,,,but if not inclined to do so,,,,,,,,,,just pick up a 5 qt jug of Mobil 1 full-syn 10-30, plus a quality filter, and take it to a oil change shop or a full service gas station with service bays,,,,and ask them what they'll charge you to drain and fill the cat with your material, not theirs. I would imagine a $10 bill that's not going to hit the cash register till will cover the cost,,,plus maybe hand the actual person who does the work another two or three bucks.
Under $50 should get ya all fixed up with full synethic oil, filter, and labor.

In the winter when I can't get to the hoist, I use the local non-branded oil change center. Like Ally Cat says, bring your own Mobil One 10W30 and a quality filter. They charge us $14 plus $2 oil disposal fee. Because of all of the controversy regarding oil filters, I now use the Mopar filter or the NAPA Gold filter.

I never considered the NAPA Gold filter before I had problems with my Rambler. Ended up cutting several apart. Very heavy weight can, metal end caps on the filter element and silicon valves. I was impressed.

I changed to the "best long life" (there is different
kinds of Mobil 1)synthetic oil and put on a Fram Extended Guard -XG 16 filter.
I think this filter holds the oil in the motor when not running.
It will stop the "rattle" in the motor when it is first started up.
I got the filter at WalMart.

RPL is right,,,,,,I use Mopar filters and the NAPA Gold and Premium Carquest filters. The latter two filters,,,,,are made for NAPA and Carquest by Wix Filters >>> their upper lines are as good as they get.

I use a K&N oil filter. I like the nut welded on the case for easy removal.

I go once a year on the Kat(about 5-6k miles) and every 10,000 on the Ram(with dual filters).

I use only Mobil 1 full synthetic

I would never pay someone to change my oil. Espcially $125, what a rip off. I use Mobil One Full Synthetic also, and STP Filter! If you have a pair of ramps, it is very easy to change the oil. $125, PLEASE!!

Mobil has a filter designed for their synthetic oil.
The part number is M1-204 for the Prowler!!! MOPAR's filter was made by the lowest bidder, pay it now or pay it later!!! Available at your local parts store, the oil comes in a five quart container at Wally-World.. My labor cost at the dealer is $10.00 Prowl and Howl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mopar oil filters are manufactured by Wix and are made to Mopar spec's.. Work very well with the full synthetic oil. FYI

We take ours to our Chrysler dealer and he charges us ~$35.00 to change the oil, filter, checking all the other fluids, and some other checks. Don't have a bill in front of me to see what they were. But we have been very satisfied with our dealer.

P.S. - they say that the Mobil 1 oil filter is a FINE $FOUR-DOLLAR filter . . . . IN A $TWELVE-DOLLAR PACKAGE!

The 5 QT at WalMart jumped from $ 18 to $ 30. I change my own. The local AutoZone parts places will recycle the old oil for free.

If you change it yourself, make real sure that when taking off the filter that you do not mess up the oil sender unit.It is very close to the filter and can be damaged real easy as soem of our members have learned!

Listen to RPL and the others regarding filters. I am now installing a new engine in my Kat and RPL and I think it is due to using a FRAM filter. This is an expense that is coming out of MY pocket too, as the Kat is out of Warranty.
OUCH !!!!! The fram filters tends to collapse inside!!!! Use a WIX or Napa Gold. My engine started to clatter lightly as a slight lifter tick. I drove it about 500 miles and all the time continuously monitering the oil pressure. Everything seemed to be okay and then suddenly the oil pressure went to "0" and began clattering like a group of sledge hammers! I was not a happy camper !!! Old engine is almost ready to remove and I should have the new one installed and running by next week.

If you want to make sure, it's not just "the purelator", it's "THE PUROLATOR PURE ONE".

To all,

I also use Mobil 1 synthetic, but BE CAREFULBE CAREFUL. I had a local garage change my oil and they stripped out the drain plug and pan. I had to take it to a dealer to have a new pan and screw installed by a Prowler tech. The cost would have paid for many oil changes. Anybody want to buy a cheap oil pan with a stripped out drain?

It says the PUREOLATOR. It does not say purolator pure one. I use the number from above. L 14670
