Has anyone tried this? Just one of MANY threads about wheels getting rechromed. Do a search to get all the info. Has anyone tried this? Both sets I had chromed were factory painted silver wheels. Which are the best to have chromed. Good luck finding someone to do them. The fronts are the real problem. Not very many left to be had. Seems like a lot of 20's available, but they also are not as bad at peeling and pitting as the fronts. Bill had 20" wheels cheap not long ago. I would guess trying to get them finished on the inside with powder coating or just buy a set of aftermarket wheels. Since the match set of tires are getting impossible to find might be easier to put a set of 19" on the back and 17" on front in aftermarket if a matched set of 17"& 19" are available. Plus the taller sidewall (if you can get a 19 the same height) might make it ride a tad better. My 2 cents Fast forward SUCKS will not deliver what they promise The company that originally did mine may or may not be in business, but many after mine were not happy. Few places will chrome wheels. Damaged pitted wheels would need to be sanded and polished smooth before chroming, (EXPENSIVE, LABOR INTENSE) might as well get after market. When ordering a set of wheels that are polished aluminum request polished barrels also. ------------------ This message has been edited by ed monahan on 10-26-2016 at 10:13 PM http://www.google.com/search?q=powder+coated+site%3Aprowleronline.com&oq=powder+coated+site%3Aprowleronline.com&aqs=chrome..69i57.34728j0j4&client=tablet-android-samsung&sourceid= chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8 This message has been edited by padroo on 10-27-2016 at 08:54 AM Any results on this effort, Largent? Won't new wheels have the issues we're trying to correct via re-chrome...Largent I'm thinking about having my chrome wheels re-chromed.
I have a 2000 Woodard.
Success? Advice? padroo It's on the iffy side. You can buy new rears from Bill almost cheaper than you can get them redone. There was a company that used to do them on this site but they weren't coming back like people wanted and there was a big blow up and they won't do any more wheels. I had four done by them and three out of four are OK. My wife waxed them before they were put on the car and just by wiping them a layer of chrome came off of the inside barrel. I was one of the lucky ones. New 17 inch wheels are like hens teeth. Success? Advice?
Larry & Sue Mayesed monahan I have two sets of painted silver wheels. Way back when, I thought I would have them chromed but after doing one set of wheels a few years ago, there is no way I would send them out to an unknown/untried shop unless someone had had a set done and were pleased with the results. Largent I like the idea of a powder coated barrel and chrome outboard...
Do you think that combination has a high likelihood of success? padroo Links to powder coated wheels. drbutton I've heard that the EPA, under the current administration, has really been making matters difficult for operations that chrome anything. With this, fewer chrome shops are left which means less competition, a smaller supply, and fewer choices. Shops can now "cherry pick" whose parts they choose to chrome, so it seems. If you don't like the work, where are you going to go? They are years ahead of us in Europe, where there is nowhere to have anything chromed. The powder coaters are filling in the need, but somehow, its not the same... Largent I have found a shop nearby that does custom chrome projects & powder coating and they are a full service tire and wheel shop.
I'm going to talk with them Thursday morning - I'll report back...drbutton quote:

I'm going to talk with them Thursday morning - I'll report back...Largent I have abandoned the effort - at least for now.
The shop I talked to was familiar with Prowler wheel issues and didn't want to attempt.
They recommended powder coat...VinceM I've used Wheel Repair Specilists in Santa Ana CA two times to repair and re-chrome my Foose wheels. The wheels had some curb rash. The wheels now look like new again and have no signs of problems after being on the car for 2 years. They may be able to do Prowler wheels and get good results. www..ocwheelrepair.com jfbart Try this URL instead: http://www.ocwheelrepairs.com RPL You're all looking at re-chroming. That's a good deal, I paid $150 for used ones and then had to pay to get them rechromed.Largent quote:

Get them before they're all gone!RPL They may well have the same issue as may a rechromed wheel. The pitting is caused by cast aluminum wheel. These wheels were never intended to be chromed. They were designed as painted wheels. They would have chosen a different base wheel had they originally intended to chrome them. The show surface of the wheel doesn't pit that often just the back barrels. The diameter and openness of the design leave the back barrel visible.
