ed monahanHow many of you still have not had your ball joints replaced?
Are you going to have it done or just ignore it.
If ignoring it, why?

I know of a couple of local owners who are contemplating having it done in the near future.
This was a poll question a few years ago but a lot of cars have changed hands and we have a lot of new members since then.

1buddycI still need to have both cars done....
tangled up in BLUETangelo Kat was done before I bought it...

Kandi Kat was done a long time ago and never driven since...the tech was very careful, but it made me nervous to watch it just the same

Yelo Kat has never been done and probably never will...don't really want it touched by anyone in a garage with any kind of tools ...it still only has 225 miles on it....doubt if will ever see 500 miles as long as it is in my ownership...

J KingWhat Prowlers required the recall, all of them or just certain years?

GaryEThe ball joint recall is something that everyone needs to complete. I have looked at to many of the old ball joints that are real scary. There have been to many accidents that could have ended up very serious. I recommend that if you have not done the recall, you schedule it before your drive your car this spring.

I think it's for all of them.
I did it on both of mine, 99 and 02.
My dealer let me have the joints and I put them in myself.
Had to give the old joints back.
Oyea, it is only the lowers that can be changed.
The top ones can be pressed out but there is not a replacement.

cnilejrI purchased my prowler last summer. How can I find out if the ball joint recall was completed or not?
Mike DowneyCheck with your Chrysler dealer. He can run the VIN and tell you if it has been done or not.

quincyEd has posted a very important safety notice. IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD THE RECALL, GET IT DONE. IT WILL BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY REGARDLESS OF AGE OR MILES. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, HAVE THE DEALER RUN THE VIN # TO VERIFY. Loosing a lower ball joint at freeway speeds can be fatal!
terry chapmanI bought my 2000 last October with 9000 miles on it and the ball joints were falling out of it. I mentioned the ball joint recall to the dealer and they changed them before I took delivery of the car.
bjprowlerMine is going into the shop in about 10 days....I shouldn't have put it off this long (25K miles) but don't want to push my luck any further....

If you've not had yours done, check with others for a recomendation of where to take it but be sure your mechanic is certified on Prowlers.....Truth is, you'll probably be more picky about who does this than you were when you picked out the doc to do your vasectomy!

BeWareOurs was done a long time ago. No damage was done changing the ball joints. And we have the painted 99 A Arms . I saw a ball joint failure at the Smokies event. It was not a pretty sight and a lot more damage was incurred than could possibly be inflicted during the ball joint change.

bowtonPurchased my Woodward a few weeks ago. Thanks to the posts on POA, I became aware of the ball joint recall. I had my local dealer run the VIN and the good news is that the ball joints were replaced in August of 2003. Ordered one of Larry Lord's Wonderbars this morning. I have got to quit reading the posts. You people are costing me $$$. Dust cover is next, etc., etc., etc., etc.,.....

Bowton

Dave MillsMine were replaced years ago with no problem.
SkullrodderBought my 97 last August just checked the web site posted here. Neither factory recall, (lower ball joints or fuel rail o-rings) done on my car. I will attempt to schedule ASAP with local dealer. 6547 miles with Wildwood and Woodward comming up....Thanks to everyone for the GREAT information and advise. Charlie.
392HEMIMan, get those fuel rail O rings done. If they spring a leak on hot engine, Burn baby Burn!!
Marty UsherThe small risk of some damage being done during the recall repairs can be minimized by explaining your concerns to the service staff up front. These risks of damage are nothing compared to the feling you'll have seeing your Prowler listing to one side with a front wheel sitting at a 30% angle and having the front fender touching the nose piece!

That's not to mention the sound when the ball joint actually fails and the steering wheel jerks in your hands!

PLEASE do yourself a favor and get the ball joints replaced!

ed monahanYou can actually look at the bottom of the ball joint and read a number and that would tell you if the recall was done. Unfortunately I can't read the number on mine since I am looking into a mirror to see it. I will try it in the sunlight but I think it was posted in the past.
Northern CatEd, I'm on my second set of Ball Joints...and no they (DC) don't pay for it...So keep an eye on your ball joints and have them checked often..

SkullrodderTalked to the local dealer today & scheduled appointment for both fuel o-ring and ball joint replacement on the 19th. They also ran my VIN and said the frame weld repair was completed on my car. Very helpful and assured me they have a senior mechanic on staff familiar with Prowlers. Thanks again for the advise. Charlie.
Prowler XI wonder how the pending/possible sale of Chrysler would affect such recalls and extended warranties? I'm guessing nothing, but if I had any warranty work to be done, I'd do it now to avoid any hassles.
