CJYou all know that my son is in the military and that we aren't allowed to know where he is or what he is doing. He emailed me a couple of pictures today and I asked him if I could post them. I thought you might find them interesting. He said it was okay. I told him that there have been many times that people on the board wished him well and are keeping him in their prayers. He appreciates it.

I think this is the city where he is residing right now.

Another shot of the city. He says there is a lot of poverty there. He was telling me a story about a day that he was headed out to buy groceries. It's very hot there (110 degrees) and he said there was a little girl who was wandering the streest, crying because the surface she was walking on was extremely hot and her feet were burning. She had no shoes. He motioned her over and he took her to a shop and bought her a pair of shoes. He said they cost him about $4.00 american, but you would have thought that he had given her a million bucks! He says that this culture does not care about women........they especially don't care about the female children and that they wander the streets by themselves all the time. He says he feels very guilty about having money to shop for groceries when so many people there have nothing. He said that most of them make less than $200 (U.S.) a month to live on. He says there is a lot of deformity in this country (?) and there is one guy in particular who has some deformities that lives on the street. Brian says that he usually gives the man some money for food whenever he goes to the grocery, but he has to be careful, or everyone would be after him for money. In spite of what the media says about our troops being over there, there is some good things that happen, not just bad. We are very proud of our son.........and the job that he is doing..........whatever that is!!

ZackC J,

Tell Brian to keep his head down and stay safe! Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

GenoTexIs that a peregrine falcon?
ed monahanThat second picture reminds me of Taiwan or Korea. Tell him we are proud of him and thankful for what he and his buddies are doing. Hopefully W. will get re-elected so we don't turn tail and run or fold our tent like they did in V.N. at the end.
keesCJ,

According to the signs on the second photo he is in a
Moslim/Hindustaan country you can also see that on the
woman wearing clothes covering hear head and the man in the
back wearing a white cap. According to the first photo
I would say he is in Afganistan or at least a country that
is very close to that. That would also explain the culture
which is exactly as described.

Best regards,

Kees

jkburnsCJ:

Thanks for posting these. We are grateful that your son and many others put themselves in harms way in order to protect our freedoms.

Please know you and yours are in our thoughts and prayers.

God bless America!

CJ, if this is something you want to set up with your son, count me in.

I have a nephew in the Air Force that is stationed over there somewhere, can't tell us where. Let your son know that we appreciate his service.

CJ, tell your son that my entire family is greatful for his and your familys sacrifice and patriotism.

TooHipCatCJ,
The pics and story of your son Brian are great. The story of the girl with no shoes was sad. Your son sounds like a very noble and caring person.
My families prayers go out to him. He will be just fine! Try not to worry.
Brian
Bob MillerThe signs are in Urdu, so it's pretty clear where it is. Thanks for sharing the photos CJ and we'll keep your son and his unit in our prayers. I'd chip in some $ for shoes or whatever, if something is set up for this.
CJWe are pretty sure that he has spent most of his overseas time in the Middle East........various places, I'm sure.

A/C......we are able to email him through his earthlink account. Computers are wonderful and I am glad that he has access to them so that he can stay somewhat in touch. He also calls on occasion....out of the blue.

Gene........I know that it is a Falcon!

BobG......that is a bit too scary!!

Thanks all for the kind comments and compliments to Brian. He is an amazing person and his father and I are extremely proud of him. I guess it goes to show that even though he is trained to be a very focused, intense and tough person.......there is also room for compassion and caring..

Top KatThanks CJ for sharing. From an Old Vet, we are proud of him and what he is doing. Send him all of our love and best wishes.

TBlatnicaI'm in too if it can be set up... every little bit helps and if it doesn't have to come out of the pocket of a hard working soldier, I would rather it come out of mine...

Tell him we are all pulling for him and our troops over there

CJI emailed my son about your very kind offers of wanting to help out and here is his response:

"Not so much on the money. There's really no way to ensure that the kids get it. Alot of them are forced out into the streets to beg and their parents (also homeless/impoverished) just take the money from them. I've given cash to little kids before and have had to watch an adult come running over and take it from them straight away. I try to buy them things instead of money cause then I at least know they got something out of it. I wish there was a better way or a better answer, but, unfortunately, there is isn't. I also did some research on line about sponsoring a child in one of a couple of countries, but even that isn't really good. I want my money to go directly to the child and what usually happens is that it goes into a community pot and used to build schools, churches, and that sort of thing. While not bad, I want my money to directly benefit the child. Not only that, there is gross mismanagement and fraud at ground (or end-user level). It's disappointing cause I was trying to sponsor a little girl from India or Pakistan. Short answer is no. Sorry.

And I don't know what kind of falcon that was, but it was cool as hell. Also tell them that I appreciate their kind comments and wishes. It means a lot to all of us."

Bcoffman Gray GhostReally neat CJ. You have a great son there. Tell him we all thank him.
