| Bob Harder | Does anyone know if I can connect another sound source to the Prowler sound system? (either at the radio itself or at one of the component locations..) | Andy R | I don't believe the stock stereo is able to have an auxilliary input. I would suggest to just hook up an FM modulator. It has RCA jacks to add an auxilliary source. IIt runs in line with the stereo's antenna jack and outputs the sound to a prescribed FM frequency. So you would just have to tune into that freqency to listen to your auxiliiary source. I use them and keep one of my presets programmed to that frequency so it is ready to go. I find the quality to be perfectly acceptable. You could find these anywhere from $10 and up. I bought 4 from someone on ebay a couple of years ago for $10 or so each. |
| whealy | Bob, You could get one of these. It would allow you to convert the CD connection into RCA connections. Then you could get a switch to switch between what comes in off that line. Of course that would be outside the head unit control.

I hate to disagree with friends, but I found the FM modulation that came with my Neo Jukebox to be horrible. Perhaps it was the unit that came with it, as in cheap. Or perhaps (and more likely) the sound coming from the Neo is so clear, that with it, the FM modulation sounded bad. I had one of these (as in the one i put a link in for) devices when I hooked it up and tried both it and the FM modulation. The difference was incredible. But I also think the clarity of the sound coming from the Neo is awesome. Not saying the Neo is the best thing since sliced bread, but as far as clarity of sound is concerned, I really haven’t heard anything that comes close! Seriously, I haven’t done anything else to the sound system because IMO it sounds that good. So for me, I just think the FM modulation isn’t a good solution.

| Bob Harder | Thanks for the ideas...Logjam does not list the Prowler as compatible with their system but I have emailed them to find out for sure... Has anyone found other ways to connect additional sound sources to the stock Prowler radio system? How do folks connect up those new satellite radio sytems to the Prowler? All ideas welcome! |
| whealy | Bob, That's the unit I used. As I recall the dates look wrong, but the head unit for the Kat is "older". Here's another post where I think Mike bought some for his Sat Rad install. Although I didn't hear if it went well or not. |
| Bob Harder | Thanks, Whealy.... Logjam emailed back to say that they have two parts which would work together to let another sound source to be added (in addition to the CD changer)... Just need to figure out what to do for a switch to choose source (CD changer vs. new source) |

| Andy R | That looks like a great solution for adding on to the stock stereo. Sorry you had a bad experience with the FM modulator, Whealy. It seems you may have a bad unit or maybe some FM interference with the frequency you selected to lessen the sound quality. I use mine also with my jukebox and it comes through very clearly. I'm glad you found a good alternative.  |
| leon kurzweil | I bought a Delphi Skyfi unit from Jay Harris along with a Prowler specific FM monulated cxar kit..it was as easy as plug and play..I did have a local custom stereo shop run the antenna wire from the front of the dash, and they installed a blank steel plate next to the radio (it's attached on the inside and is very sturdy) to attach the skyfi unit to so that it is visable and easy to use. The skyfi also comes with a small remote...so, that was my answer to XM radio installation. |
| YELLER CAT | There are currently 4 different ways to use (insert) an auxiliary audio source with (into) the OEM Prowler radio... 1. Cassette adapter... an auxiliary source is connected to the adapter which is inserted into the cassette slot. As with everything there are good and bad ones... some work better than others. This is really an easy way for an occasional connection and the good ones really do work. 2. Unplug the CD changer and insert the auxiliary audio source here via special DIN cable. 3. Use a Custom switch connected directly to the CD changer input allowing either the CD changer or an auxiliary audio source to be switched for use. This allows either source to be activated independently. Additionally this is a "direct" audio connection, offering reproduction of the entire audio source(s) bandwidth. 4. FM Modulator... this is the most widely accepted and here again there are good ones and bad ones... more bad than good! With regards to this connection, there are 2 different ways... wired and wireless. Our favorite and best performing for our Rear Seat Entertainment Systems is the "wireless", however the SKYFi XM Satellite radio's FM modulator is the best "wired" one we have ever used... extremely low noise and full range sound reproduction. As with everything there are lots of variables here to consider... the audio source and your expectations are primary!!!
