------------------ ------------------ ------------------ ------------------ Mav ------------------ Mav oops caps lock....sorry anyway...I got the Borla and it is tuned nicely. Plus the Borla pipes won't rust like the stock ones. Mav PS I also received, and installed the Chrome headrest covers form Gary....WOW!!!!!!!! I love them. ------------------ Thanks ------------------ 2001 Burnt Orange Chrysler Prowler Mav Mav, ------------------ Thanks ------------------ 2001 Burnt Orange Chrysler Prowler Mavthomas leuschner Removed baffles from stock exhaust tips, Sunday morning.
I like the mellow sound at cruising speed, I also like the look of the big exhaust opening. Try it you'll like it. Gary C Do a H or X pipe and it would sound even better.......

I've started to remove the baffles. Got the rivet heads off with a dremel tool but don't know if the other half of the rivet fell thru. Do the baffles pull out easy???
What did you use to get them out???
Steve D.
----------------------Gary C You can remove the baffles by simply drilling out the rivets that hold them in and then pull them out by gripping them with pliers or vice grips, twisting and yanking.

I used a dremel also, than I got a punch from my tool box and tapped the rivet. It went in with know problem, I than used a needle nose pliers ( biggest one I had ) and pulled the baffle out with little or no resistance. When you see the baffle you are going to be surprised how substantial it is. Don't look for a huge difference in sound at idle, but do expect a subtle but pleasant sound at cruise speed. I had mentioned I wanted to do this on POA. and got positive responses to go ahead. I am pleased with results.maverick1 How did you get the heads off with a dremel tool? I tried and only managed to scratch the tip some?? thomas leuschner I used the the 1"x1/8" (blue) wheel and stayed right on the center of the rivet. The rivet head fell off and then I punched it through.
Nice improvement in sound. Subtle but noticeable.RADCAT RICH if you floor it in neutral, the rivot that fell into/inside tailpipe, will blow out(yell clear, dont stand behind pipe)

Black Tie 161 i PUILLED THE BAFFLES, AND IT WAS TOO WHOOSHY...NO TUNING. maverick1 I pulled the baffles out today, and can't tell a lot of difference with the sound, or performance, but it sure does look MUCH better!!!!!!!!!! DUSTI Thomas,
I pulled the baffles on my cat, combined with a SSS exhaust from Jay (Shimmers) - WOW !
The sound is great but I still wasn't totally happy with the looks of the stock tips so I had custom tips made (similar in style to the Borla tips) and will put them on this week - hopefully this will complete it visually as well !
DUSTI - Prowler crazyOrange Can someone post a few pics of the stock tips w/o baffles?

Did the same thing, after removing the baffels I liked the subtle sound. Well, I liked it so much I also bought the SSS muffler.
I honestly thought I felt a difference in torque and the way the KAT pulls off from idle.
I am not going to change the tips right now but I am going to try and polish the inside of the stock ones. maverick1 Thomas, How much louder did it get with the SSS muffler? DUSTI Thomas,
Jay (Shimmers) told me to 'paint' the inside of the stock pipes with high temp. black paint to rid the baffle marks and give it a more 'finished' look !
the SSS won't make it 'louder' but a more deeper, fuller sound overall - once you hit the gas and go over 3500 rpm the cat really starts growling !
I'm anxious to hear it with my new tips - I'll let y'all know !
DUSTI - Prowler crazyobi-wan Go to the sss muffler. You'll be very happy. It's a direct fit and has a great sound but quiet at road speeds.I really like mine a lot. It also adds 29 ft. lbs of torque-that's a great deal for just a muffler. I've installed 6 of them and were all happy as kat owners can get-and that's happy dude ! Obi-Wan Orange Obi-Wan, Where did you get the 29 ft. lbs. figure? What about HP ?

Some people have said they felt no difference with the muffler but i know my car did.
As far as loudness goes. It gets loud when you get on it and it sounds serious.
I have since added gears and the sound has moved to different levels but not noisy when cruising.
In no way does it sound like a v8. It just sounds like you mean business with what you have.
Tommaverick1 Thanks for the replies. I may have to try one on mine, although I really do like the sound with just the baffles out pretty well. DUSTI Thomas + Mav,
check out the post I replied to just a little while ago in the 'Performance + Appearance" section - it's about the exhaust tips I mentioned earlier !
