Could it be alternator whine?
Used to be a condenser to quiet that.
Haven't heard about them for years.

I posted this in May, 2016.

For the past couple of months, I have been experiencing some AM radio noise and a random misfire engine code on my 2002 Prowler. After some research, I found that the Prowler engine has 2 ignition capacitors which are located on each side of the engine block. I picked up 2 of these at the Chrysler distributorship. Mopar #04606866AA @ about $14 each. The 2002 Service Manual, page 8I-4 shows the locations and removal/installation procedure. After replacement, the radio noise along with the random misfire code have stopped. I have also noticed an increase in mileage and acceleration.

You might try this.

Does the noise stop when you put the shifter into 2nd gear or reverse?

to be sure an intermittent connection and grounds are always the first consideration... making sure ALL the audio equipment has a 'chassis' ground... it may look connected but check for corrosion under the terminals... hard to see, but most likely the problem.

Is this what the capacitor looks like?

Does the noise change with engine RPM?

Thank you for your help padroo

Yes, the engine RPM is dependent noise.
also has the speakers a pulsating noise when I drive on a
rough road.
which would also interest me, where is the capacitor
installed.
best regards from Germany

Thank you for your efforts. I found out where places the capacitors. left and right built into the height of the cylinder head.
I will replace the capacitors, and report whether an improvement is.

Thanks to LSK for his post on this topic in May of this year!

I have been suffering with this problem forever and didn't want to upgrade my stereo for fear I would have the same problem. Yes, I also had the experience of the radio noise going away once you put the car in reverse. That was strange to say the least!

Note the picture below... the new capacitor is slightly larger and the large tab is integrated INTO the capacitor.
The older tab shown is bent where it mounts to the cylinder head because there are 2 raised knobs on the mounting surface. I used my dremel tool to level off these knobs so the new capacitor can mount flush. (on both sides of the engine). So far the driveway test shows NO radio noise from the engine with the top up. I will update this post once I go for a driving test.

9-17-16 update...
My driving test revealed that the high pitched whine in the speakers is STILL there. So....No noise in the driveway, but noise on the road. (Perhaps that eliminates the alternator atleast.) At this point I can only believe that the radio is defective. Could be a ground issue for the radio itself. I'm out of ideas for now.

Hello together. I tried to order the ignition capacitors in USA.
Currently I have no dealer found the delivers to Germany.
I'll try these parts in a Chrysler dealer in the neighborhood to order

@ Scott99 Thank you for showing the pictures

This is the location for the Passenger Side Capacitor

If you notice, both have a Dark Green & Orange wire going to them.

Can you post a link to the Advanced website or their part number? I would have never guessed that you could get one from anyone but the dealer.

I have heard grounds being a problem for radio interference.

I found this in the Prowler manual under Audio Systems, page
8F-1

Here is the Audio Diagnosis page 8F-3

Been meaning to reply as I had the radio noise issue several years ago. Here is what I did and what I found.

My noise was a constant buzz, not related to engine speed, and was not present in reverse or 2nd gear. After reading others suggestions I cleaned all grounds and even disconnected the radio and checked connections there. The noise did go away but I was unsure what really helped. After a year or so the noise came back. I did some more work at it and discovered my problem was the connection behind the radio where the bundle of wires plug in. Every year or so the noise comes back, but I now can easily fix the problem by reaching my hand up under the lower dash and working and securing the connection. Has been working for me so far.
