I was wondering...for all of you who have had to replace your trans sensor (input or output), at what mileage did they fail? It would be interesting to start a running record of "mileage at trans sensor failure" — to track this and see if there is any common failure point (after a certain # of miles). PREDICTIVE MODELING. Or, perhaps we'll find that trans sensor failure occurs in an entirely random fashion. |

My 99 Purple has only 6100 miles on it and it went out Friday! Seems like an age issue rather than a mileage one. ------------------ |

I just replaced mine at 44k. This car sits most of the time so I wonder if sitting makes them more prone to failure. The good side is they were 16.99 at autozone. |

The Yellow has 18,000 miles and the Mulholland has 21,000 miles, and no problems there. I think I will buy an extra set tomorrow! ------------------ |

there is no real time or mileage for failure, when it happens it happens,if your not holding your mouth right could be sooner than later.in case your in them middle of nowhere,or want to avoid a tow, carry a set and wrench in the trunk. ------------------ |

This question was brought up so, I am throwing in my 2 cents. I have always felt that letting a car sit for long periods is just as, if not more harmful than putting a ton a miles on it. Time and time again you will read a post regarding a problem here on the POA that will start out with "my car has been sitting for a long time" or "my yy Prowler with only (read very low) miles on it". While this is just my opinion, the number of posts I have seen similar to what I have described, seem to give it some merit. |

rich, youre right about letting it sit,for a long period of time, like 3 yrs,and then they wonder why.letting it sit can cause a multitude of problems, more than you might imagine.oh,he never drove it,low miles it sat all the time, watch out when you hear that statement,. ------------------ |

I've got over 86,000 miles on my Kat and haven't had the problem. I've changed several for other owners, both in the field and at my house. It's very easy and can be done on the side of the road. There's other threads that tell you how to do it. I just carry a pair with the spars in the car and while I have the correct socket to do it it can be done with a set of slip jaw pliers--no big deal. I hope this helps, Obi-Wan. |

I have been curious about how many of you have a trans cooler cover. Wondering if limiting the airflow through the trans cooler is causing excessive heat and frying the sensors? There is no way to tell the temp of the trans. Has anyone put in a trans temp guage? ------------------ |

My first Prowler had the problem within the first 2000 miles. This was prior to POA so I was not aware of the fix. I did NOT have a tranny cooler cover. I had one other failure but I don't recall which car and it probably did have the cover but I don't recall the mileage, either. I keep a spare set in both cars. Prowler is not the only Mopar that has the sensor failure syndrome. Most Mopars have the same problem. |

MDProwler Gary has a trans temp guage, but doesn't have a cover. He is thinking of putting one on. If he does we will check to see if temp increases and report results. |

quote: I remember when I first bought the Purple, I was worried that the transaxle cooler fan was not working because I never heard it come on. I took it to the dealer and he ran it through the tests and showed that it was actually running cooler than the Mulholland, so the fan wasn't coming on as often, and they both had covers on them. He was not able to tell any difference in transaxle temperatures with the cover on or off. ------------------ |
