99 at 26,000 miles, Now I keep both sensors in my car (on hand) after paying $320.00 for a dealership to replace one while I was out of town and had no other choice. If I recall correctly both senors cost me less than $30.00.

At my local Chrysler dealer, including diagnosis and a door rate of $99.00 hour, my bill totalled $139.31 CDN plus tax to replace both sensors.

I think he meant 23,000 miles before he replaced the sensor.

My input sensor just went out. At least I was only about one mile from home and going only about 35 mph. Just curious, has this ever happened (going into second gear) when you are going 100 plus mph on the interstate? Don't think that would be good for the trans.

It is going to fail to shift. If you are going 100 MPH you probably are already out of 2nd gear unless you are in a little Nash Rambler. Beep-Beep

Well I was already out of second gear and it suddenly downshifted into second. I did know that I would not be in second at 100 thank you.

Drive it or lose it.

I lost mine around 20,000 miles. The original owner just kept the car in storage. The car was never driven enough. I am a tireless voice against people locking up Prowlers and letting them rot from the inside out.

phat,im against letting them sit also.does the car no good at all.many seals and important gaskets dry out, then you end up replacing them.all it does is cause problems.

I have 61,000 miles on my Black Tie and still on the same sensors, but I have carried an extra set along with the 1 inch socket and ratchet since I picked the car up 4 years ago with only 2500 miles on it. I had my transmission serviced at 50,000 miles.

TOM... You must be one of the younger folks here. To understand Ed's comment... You would have to be riding in a Cadillac. LOL .. OH... And Nash Ramblers can go 120 mph in second gear, but nobody can figure out how to get it out of second.

Thanks Jan...

BradleyG - your sensors are probably not gonna give-out anytime soon, because your car has a healthy driving life. The only Prowlers having sensor and gaket issues are those that were caged-up. I see some guys on here with 100,000+ miles on their prowlers and they are running with less problems than those with 3000 miles.

I look at it this way. If you don't drive your prowler, it gives you more problems than if you just drove it and enjoyed it. At least you'll have the good times to show for it.

You are right. Put the car away because people think is going to be a gold mine in 20 yrs. Good luck! Maybe 60 years down the road the great granchildren can enjoy the same value as today considering the cost of living.
Model T Ford sold for $700.00 in the 20's. In todays money, that is over 20 thousand. Same price, same thing.
Mine has 112,000. Has gone down a cliff ( Tail of the Dragon), to California from Florida and back. Same sensors, no problems.

After I left the Route 66 crew in Utah, I returned the next day doing a constant 80 miles an hour for 7 hours in 106 degree heat. When I finally slowed down in stop and go traffic, that's when the trans made a clunk noise shifting down to 2nd gear. (9750 miles) I was close enough to home to fix it in the garage but would have had a hell of a time doing it along side the road as my Kat has a TGF rolled pan that doesn't let you get under the car if you are, as I am, a wide body person. A jack and jack stands allow you to get the clearance needed to get under the vehicle.
