I had an electric bike and Linda had an electric tricycle. Mine the motor was in the pedal assembly and her trike had the motor in the hub. Of the two I liked the way mine was set up the best. I was not a fan of the motor in the hub. It just didn’t seem to work as well because mine had more gear options.

That is a really nice looking antique style Ebike Dick. I just bought my first one a couple of weeks ago.

For those who don't know these bikes are not like a regular bike, mine weighs in at 88 pounds. I am a fairly tall guy and I feel small on it. I wouldn't recommend this one unless you are tall. There are a lot of reviews and some say it will run 40 mph.

I found an interesting article from my local electric company giving the history of the electric bike. Here is the link to the Ebike.

Electric bicycles may seem like a 21st-century phenomenon, but in fact, the first e-bike patent was granted in the ’90s — the 1890s.

Very interesting article. Lots of E-bikes showing up here on S Padre. Mostly older folks bringing them with them. I was surprised how heavy they are. They’re not slow either so I’m sure you have to have a little coordination & balance. I didn’t realize the motors could be located in the pedal& hub assembly. The link I posted above was the 1st sidecar I’d seen on a bicycle. Really neat looking. One owner posted there was a learning curve riding it. I’m sure there is. Same learning curve on a motorcycle with a sidecar.

The drive system where the motor is built into the pedals is referred to as a mid drive. The one built into the wheel is referred to as a hub drive. Mid drives are not as common mostly because they are more expensive. Mine is a $2000 hub drive which is considered cheap.
The mid drive drives the bicycle chain, the hub drive spins the wheel and not the chain. Mid drives have the most torque.
