As I post this, I am stuck at work for the night.

We have gotten in excess of five inches of snow in the past three hours. I would call this a blizzard snowstorm that includes thunder and lightning along with some wind.

I started home and got almost halfway before traffic really stopped. There was an incline that I had no way around that even the 4X4 and All Wheel Drive vehicles were not able to climb. (I am betting the vehicles could have made it with competent drivers behind the wheel)
I was driving the company vehicle which is a E-250 Van with a single track differential. It does OK until I have to stop, then getting going again is a chore which includes a lot of praying and eventually a little !%&*+#$%!. I turned around and went back to the shop where I will try to sleep. It's gonna be a long night and a longer day tomorrow.

On the trip back I passed multiple vehicles on the side of the road and many more just accelerating with no forward motion. I feel lucky that I am at least inside and warm tonight. I am not going to press my luck and venture out.

Stop by if you are out and around.

Sounds like you people up there don't know how to drive when it snows a little. Here, we've learned that when your situation arizes, we simply get out of the car and walk beside it up the hill. It really doesn't take much effort, and you can recoup any spent energy coasting down the other side.
I just wanna know... what color is the lightnin'?

This has been a very strange year for most areas, The East Coast is getting pelted with 3 snow storms in a row, here in California , we have had unusually warm weather. Today was 82 degrees, but our normal should be in the 60s. Most of our winter weather has been very nice, except for the rain we had, but was much needed.

Nick,
The snow by it's self was not that bad.
The problem is with all the idiots that have the "SUV's" and No Fear that simply don't have enough common sense to drive in the stuff.(Many of them probably can't even check their oil)

I did better in my work van with a single trac differential than most front wheel drive cars and all wheel drive vehicles.

Mickey,
I am to some degree color blind but when the lightning arrived, the whole area lit up almost like daylight.
It looked white to me. (No, not that White Lightning )

I followed a Land Rover going down a hill the other day, and they were doing 12 MPH. It hadn't snowed for about 4 days. Traffic was backed up forever.
It is similar to folks buying an Excursion or Expedition and they can't keep it in their lane. They need BIGGER vehicles.

Ed, That reminds me of a time years ago when we got a lot of snow. I was in an older residential neighborhood with cars parked on both sides of the street.
The cars were parked away from the curbs but close enough to prevent the regular plow to pass between them.
The driver called into dispatch and notified them that they were unable to get through the street to plow, the dispatcher sent a bigger truck.(instead of a smaller truck)

Sure hate to "rub it in," Andria. Just 600 miles south of you today, had a "great" ride in the sunshine on dry ground.

It seems like winters in the south, east coast and north have been pretty bad while the winters in Chicago for several years now have been pretty mild. Everyone else has been suffering except for us!! Go figure....

Cold in Texas tonight!!!!

23 degrees right now at 10pm, going to get down to 14 with the wind chill at zero! High tomorrow will not break freezing. Had 70mph winds at 4am this morning, took a third of the shingles off one side of my barn roof!

Yep, this is South Central Texas!

It snows on average here once every 10 years. We've had snow 3 years in a row and are forcast snow Thursday and Friday. Temps tonight are to get to 20 with a windchill at 2. We had some pretty strong winds here last night too. I heard them but don't know how strong they were. I heard alot of branches breaking tho.
Global warming at it's finest.

Well it looks like that east coast storm has come our way too. As of tonight (Tuesday), its been lightning, fantastically heavy winds, power outtages, bitter cold and mounds and mounds of snow.

You can't even ESCAPE to somewhere warm cause the airports ARE SHUT DOWN!!

Our winter has been colder than usual but we really haven't had any REALLY cold days. It seems colder because we haven't had any warm days, either. Most days have been cold but nothing below zero and only a couple days that it dipped down in the single digits. We have had a few snow storms but nothing killer.
We got an ice storm last night but it warmed up to 40 for awhile so it melted. It is supposed to drop like a rock now.

We missed the big storm last night and by noon we are supposed to be 50 degrees. Hopefully melt some of the snow from last week. Calling for more snow Saturday and back to cold temps starting tomorrow.

Ed, You always tell us the winters are mild in Cincy.

Bet you were glad to have missed this one:

Jan. 10, 1982 - Riverfront Stadium, Cincy - AFC Championship Game: Cincinnati Bengals vs. San Diego Chargers:

Temperature: -9 degrees / Wind chill: -59 degrees

Bengals won that game,,,lost in the Super Bowl two weeks later.

That's it, BJ

Think I see Ed sitting up in the stands,,,,he looks like a frozen, 300lb block of Crystal Ice. Frozen nuts, with his Diet Dr. Pepper in one hand, and a list of repo license numbers in the other, lol.

Damn fine, mild, winters there.........
