It got up to 47 degrees overnight. It is windy now and the temp is dropping.
The week before the ice bowl, the Bengals played and I got a phone call asking if I wanted to work the game, in uniform. I had been a Det. for about 6 years and was actually doing polygraph at that point. I worked the game, it was about 75 degrees. My post was in the end zone. Chris Collinsworth caught two or three touchdown passes, in the end zone I was "protecting". They asked me if I wanted to work the next Sunday, also. I was getting paid to stand in the end zone and watch the playoff games so I said "Hell yes".
Let me tell you it was cold standing on the field, right next to the OHIO River that day. I had long johns on and then went under the stands and took towels out of the big team towel hamper, dropped my drawers and wrapped them around my legs. I still froze. I stood very close to the heaters by the bench as much as possible. Those salamander heaters kept tripping circuit breakers. I didn't know it until later but when they reset the breaker and the flame shot out of it, it burned my pants leg. I didn't feel it due to the towels and long johns.
The Bengals played in short sleeves to intimidate the Chargers.
I don't remember who the Bengals played the previous week but I did get a game ball from a buddy who worked at the stadium. He asked to borrow my rain coat and I couldn't figure out why, he hid the ball inside of it and gave it to me.
And actually I said this winter has been colder than normal, just nothing drastic at any one time.

What have you got to say now?

Chicago hammered last night, makes up for the past few years.

I like a good blizzard that cripples everyone, as long as I got my backhoe, skidloader and snowmobile close by.

In 1978 Indiana had the biggest snow/blizzard in my life. I was out from Wed. till Sun. with just 7 hours sleep, plowing snow & picking employee's for a nursing home.

Don't know if it was as much fun today.

I was in the snow removal business in Toronto for 25 years. I always enjoyed being out in the storm and it was a good source of revenue. We had 65 schools to clear at our peak.

Since January 1, we have had 72 inches of snow just north of Boston. Snow banks here at the office are over 10 feet high. Thank heavens for the snowblower on the Kubota! Projection for another 6-10" on Saturday and another on Tuesday. Snow piled so high on most intersections, no way to see oncoming traffic. 40 minute commutes now up to about 90 minutes and 2 hours, then no place to park.

I am curious. Is a Snow Bank like a Blood Bank?

You know, somewhere the item is stored for later use when supplies become low?

If this is the case, I would like to donate all the snowfall we get in my area for the next fifty years.

No Andia, it's like a regular bank. You interest is less than inflation and your money melts away over time.

My earlier post was BEFORE we had the worst bizzard since 1967. And I remember that one too.
And this one has been historic too. People have been going around taking pictures cause they haven't seen anything like this before.
And now the bitter cold is here to add insult to serious injury...

Bet you were glad to have missed this one:

[B]Jan. 10, 1982 - Riverfront Stadium, Cincy - AFC Championship Game: Cincinnati Bengals vs. San Diego Chargers:

Temperature: -9 degrees / Wind chill: -59 degrees

Bengals won that game,,,lost in the Super Bowl two weeks later.

My Dad had clients at that game. He offered to let them cancel and go to a future game but they wanted to go. He said it was the coldest temps he had been out in other than running to and from a vehicle in the past.

Tom moans about it alot, but he makes a ton of money selling tickets to all the skaters to skate on his private monster lake.
