As a Newbie to this forum, I'm impressed on how much I've learned in such a very short time about my Prowler. Oh, I've taken 401KAT's advice and bought some manuals off eBay. Thanks Again, Everyone!

My tire question....... I checked and I'm currently running GOODYEAR EAGLE GS-D on both axles. They're marked EMT with LEFT & RIGHT designations and arrows for rotation. Can someone tell me if these are original to the vehicle, or more than likely replacements? The tire size is lacking the HR letters as indicated in the Owner's Manual.

You might want to check the date they were made, that information is also on the sidewall of the tire. My guess is that they are very old and the age is really what is important. I don't know the date the last run flats were made.

They are most likely originals. They could have been replaced as Goodyear made them until a few years ago, but with only 10000 miles, I doubt it. Like Rich said above check the dates on tires. Non Run flats will give a better ride, but need to carry tire repair kit. If Prowler was garaged and tires have no cracking, you should be good, but many on here have been replacing them due to age. I'm still running the original tires on both my 99 & 01 will no problems. I've never heard of anybody having a problem so far.

Would guess originals

One problem we are having is the different size tires and getting match sets.

Don't know of any currecnt matched sets.

Contenental made match sets and Perilli did a few years ago.

My front tires were current, my rear were already 2 years old when installed.

I had 39,000 miles on my tires when I changed them. The fronts still looked good, the rear, well they were a set of slicks and scary as hell I the rain.

Just ordered a matching set of Falkens from Walmart and the price beat anything I had found. My tires didn't have a bunch of miles but the fronts were 6 yrs old and the rears were 5 yrs. They looked great but the age concerned me. Most of the "professionals" say a tires life is 5 to 7 years....who knows.....just don't want to be out on the road and have a blowout !! Check out the Walmart site with free shipping....you'll be pleasantly surprised !!

I'm glad someone found a new supplier for those Falken Azenis matching set tires (WalMart). They are great tires and less than $550 for a complete set.

It's GREAT having ALL your help & advice! I checked with Chrysler and my Prowler did have the ball joints taken care of in 2003. One less thing to worry about. Checking the Carfax my car showed only 1 owner and indicated work on the radio only.

Now I checked the tires and the FRONTS have the following stamps.... Left - ( 0514 ) near the DOT and other markings of (MGCK) (EFWR) (4900), and the Right has ( 0513 ) near the DOT and same letters, except for (4800). Would you think these to be newer replacements? The REARs have ( 0301 ), so I take them to be made in March 2001. Do you guys agree?

Oh, one last thing. How do I log in & out? I've belonged to other forums an the log In/Out was obvious. I can't find the icon to click. Thanks again guys!!!!!!!

Yep....those are the tires from Walmart. Georgieboy is correct....I paid $581.00 for the set !! I've had my Kat for 5 years and the tires that came with the car were Falkens.....really glad they are still available. Good tires, good price, good ride............hard to beat !! Ersatz.....I would definitely replace the rear tires.....way too old to be safe !! The Tire Safety Group sez tires should be replaced if they are over 6 yrs old regardless of tread wear....seems like overkill to me but I'm going to heed the warning. Hopefully you can find 2 tires that will match the fronts.

The 0301 on the rears are 3rd week of 01. I think the fronts are the 49th week of 2000 & 48 week of 2000.

The recall for the ball joints was done in 2003, Its time you RE-CHECK them as that was a long time ago. Just put a floor jack under each bottom A Arm and check for play. Many of the recalled ones have also failed, and its been a long time for your car since they have been checked, so do it as soon as you can just for safety sake.

One more option that many aren't aware of is the Nitto tire

The NT555 G2 is available in both front and rear sizes
http://www.nittotire.com/passenger-tires/nt555-g2-ultra-high-performance-tire/

The pirelli handles poorly on the rain and the continental is a bit heavy on the budget.

Those Falken Azenas pictured have an attractive looking tread design. They'll look good on the car. Let us know how they ride. Rob '99 purple/red.

These are the ones I have and they do ride fine but then again any regular tire world ride better that the runflats.
If you look closely they are an asymmetrical design, but you have to look close and really isn't that noticeable.
They aren't real pricey and I am pleased with them.
I did have a flat the first summer I owned them and had to plug the tire. They were hard to find three years ago when I bought mine.

As someone who was new to run flats...after buying Marks 2001 with non-runflats....Man what a difference from the woodward with originals....Took about 1 min on open road and I went WOW...Wife said what....I commented "boy they all were right about the runflats"......They are definitely coming off......

Maybe this was talked about before, but, how much air pressure do you guys and gals run in your original Run Flat tires? If you run a low pressure, how low will set off the 'low tire' dash indicator light? R.

I always run what is written on the door jam.

I don't think lowering the pressure would help it ride much better. Have you ever seen a cut away picture of a runflat
Tire?
