An devasting day here at the Kepple household, the insurance company ruled our Kitty a total loss with damages estimated at $21,500. brief description of what happened:
Kyle was parking and his foot slipped off brake and
hit the gas, car jumped over curb, hit grass section, and proceeded down a 10 ft concrete embankment. He threw it in reverse before it flipped and managed to get it back up in parking lot.

Damage to kitty as follows: front nose fascia cracked, front grill damaged, lower rt and lft side body panels cracked, rear bumpers damaged, borla exhaust damaged, rt and lft wheel fenders stress cracked, trans cooler damaged...

we are not prepared to let her go that easy.. the insurance company will pay 20,000 for total loss and we keep her, or 32,500 to scrap and let go..we are willing to fix her and pay any additional cost over to keep her...she is our baby and it was a shot in the gut when the call came in, actually worse feeling than when the wreck happened.

We are starting the process parts, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Let it go. Reconstruction may not go well. Take the $32k.If the car ends up with a reconstructed title it will be worth much less than book value.

Nice flames. I can see why you want to fix it.

cmon its only a car, take the money and buy another one.why fix a total.if its got that much damage say goodbuy.after all is said and done if you fix it you will still have a restored salvage title and car is worth way less.

Sounds like you are getting a very good deal for 32k for a total loss. Blue book values for Prowlers are much lower. Last time I checked it was about 18k. You have a good insurance company. What company is it? I might want to call them. Did you have stated value insurance for 32k?

Thanks everyone...Kyle has decided to save Ms. Kitty..she is not just a car but a family member....
I am all for just buying another one, but he is the original owner and says it is like letting go of a loved one!
As far as insurance goes, I will have to verify info. Kyle was writing the numbers as the devastating call was going on. I do believe that it was on our policy as a "stated value" car with the aftermarket upgrades added. (I worked for insurance company when it was bought). I will run numbers before all is said and done, but ultimately it is his decision!

There's a guy named Bill in either Michigan or Florida, depending on time of year. I don't think he does business when in Florida, but I could be wrong. I think his link is http://www.prowler-parts.com but that might be wrong too. He's got lots of parts and bodyparts. Sometimes his prices are a little high, but he's usually got what you need. I hope you can still contact the flame painter.
Personally, I think you would do best by taking the $32.5K You could buy another silver and have it repainted, etc. You may have to wait on the grill you have and get used or buy a different grill. First cars are always special. Believe me, I know. But if you're going to rebuild her, start with a good platform to start with. You'll end up with a much better car in the end.

Kyle,

We all have some "extra" parts to sell. Let us know the "needed" list, and a lot of us will respond. Good Luck.

Or .... just wait for WindycityXX to pick up another pristine, low mileage Kat for around $12-$15k, add his signature "bling" and then turn it to you in the low $20s ...

... just wouldn't hold my breath on that happening though!

Sorry to hear of the accident. With that much being offered by insurance, would likely take the cash as well. Good Luck!

As a restoration guy of many cars, I sure would suggest that you not rebuild that car. They're just never the same.

While I am in the camp of take the money I can also understand where your coming from. Just understand that if they do total your car it will be worth very little.
I find it weird that all the things you mentioned would not be a fairly simple fix. As long as there is no frame damage I would think all that would add up to just over 10k ish.
Wonder if you could talk the insurance company out of a total and find another body shop to do it for less.
Just my two cents for what its worth.

I totally understand... I just rebuilt mine after an incident that appraised at 26,000 to fix... they let me decide if I wanted to fix it or take $34,000 and walk away... mine also is like a family member, not just a car... some have trouble understanding the attachment we each have on what others term as just "posessions"...Mine now runs straight and true with many new parts... 144,000 km's on her now and I let my heart decide this one....

We just spoke with the insurance company. If we total her and let her go then the settlement is for 32,500 and some change. If we retain her and rebuild it would be a 21,500 settlement. The title would be clear since we would retain her, no salvaged/reconstructed title.
Our dilemma is now what to do--Kyle has always wanted a purple one. Hence why our silver ended up with purple flames. We have located one in Alvin Texas for roughly 30,000. It is a nice one with low miles. I say take the money and run to the purple one!
The vin listed is shown in the owners registry to Dino Cooper from the highlands. We are about to run a Carfax on it to see any listings.
OOOO the decisions decisions

Kandace & Kyle,

I'm trying to 'side' with you on this one....repair it.

Can you post a few pictures of the damage? That may tell us more about the needed work...

Buying a older cat with more miles on it,,,,might be also buying somebody else's problems? You know what your car is like and how it was cared for...... just saying

I'd be afraid that the car would not ride the same. I would take the money and find another Silver Prowler and put flames on it.

Sorry to hear about that. I think most of us would have a hard time letting go.....but others are correct.....it won't ever be the same even after a restore. Wise decision in purchasing a new one........new memories!!

The hardest part is getting over the thought that something may be not right... after over a year of driving for me I'm over the worry part and actually feel better now that I know all the front end components are brand new.... I think I've put about 15,000 miles on it since the rebuild...

it will be a restored salvage title, whoever you talked to has no idea.it will not be a clear title.thats the law.the state determines the title not the ins.co.it will never have a clear title again.a state cannot issue a clear title when its been a total.thats why a restored salvage title.
