Anyone had to replace the steering gear rubber boot? It covers the front steering gear where the steering shaft connects into the steering gear and protects the grease from being contaminated. It is not listed as a separate part in the shop manual. It is probably provided when you order a complete steering gear replacement. Any ideas ?

Are you talking about the boot on the tie rod that comes out from under the car at the steering rack? That might be something you could find at an auto parts store.

A couple of years ago I bought a Plymouth voyager boot that was stated to fit the prowler rack. I never used it. I will take a look at it and compare it to an actual prowler boot.

I replaced mine by machining a round piece of Delrin. I made it in two pieces and used a hose clamp to hold them together. It has been working well. The key is to make the part fairly precise. Nylon, Teflon will also work very well.

Same part is used on Neon, Intrepid and more Dodge vehicles and even Vipers. Search your re-cycler for approx 2000 year cars.
