That is very true. Oil prices played a large part in helping to get the ball rolling on the economy crash we've seen in the last couple of years. The higher prices will again hurt the trucking/transportation companies and the price of goods will head upward again.

What I find interesting is that when gas prices were high before, it was common to hear people blaming President Bush and his alleged association with the oil companies. Where's the blame for Obama now?

A lot to do with Mideast unrest and an uncertain future.

Don't worry... Just read that the Cubans are preparing to drill into a 5 billion barrel reserve between the Florida Keys and Cuba. Do you think their disaster prep is as good as BP's? They will be using Chinese equipment!

New angle on oil driving up prices. When gas hit $5.00 or close to that several years ago they tacked on the price of oil as the reason for prices going up. After prices went up then the price of oil came back down, did the price of things come back down? I will assume they did not. Now fast forward to today, oil is going up again. Now you watch, there will be a price increase on everything again but I say it should not happen until gas hits $5.00 again because we already paid for the price increase. Big business, not just the oil companies use a different form of math that the working man uses. Oil companies and big business are ruthless. Agree or disagree?

I moved to Indiana 36 years ago to work in the big mills and I still think Indiana has the worst drivers and roads.
If you haven't been to Indiana for a long time you haven't seen the new signs posted at the borders. They read "ROAD ENDS" One thing about buying a used car in Indiana, the turn signals are still brand new!

Gas jumped 30 cents a gallon here today. Got to get ready for the big shortage. Congress ought to be working on price rigging in the gas industry.

I drive a 2008 Prius to work, gas mileage is down to low to mid 40,s here in winter and gets up in the low 50,s in Summer.
I hope to go all electric by the time I wear it out. Here is what I will be looking at http://www.teslamotors.com/models/gallery It's the Tesla S.
I have so many cars now I really don't need to buy a new one the rest of my life if I don't want to. I tell people I have mood cars. They say what is a mood car? I tell them I drive a different kind of car for the mood I am in! They say, how many cars do you have? I say 9. They say, why do you have 9 cars? I say because 10 would be ridiculous. The Prius is my daily driver but the KAT will be my real fun car!

I have a "mood" car also. No matter what mood I am in, the Kat changes all that and "life is great."

I agree with "Greg and Veta" also on this one.
With all of the turmoil and unrest going on in the middle east, oil prices could be unstable for quite awhile. With more and more countries demanding their independence, who knows when this thing will end??

This has NOTHING to do with Obama. Although its "the vogue", he can't be blamed for everything. The reason the Bush' were blamed is because they had a personal background in the oil business and were in bed with the movers and shakers within the oil industry.

I also see "Padroo's point". Its funny how when gas prices do go down, is doesn't have a rippling effect on the other items that still stay the same.
And in the end, "as it is written" - its the consumer who gets screwed!!

This country needs a comprehensive energy policy. It doesn't have one....period. It's the flavor de jour.

We need an intelligent on-shore and off-shore drilling policy. We need to open the National Nuclear repository that we've spend 30 years and tens of billions building (that Harry Reed promoted and now won't allow to open). We need a national nuclear power plant plan and grid.

We need a global vehicle exhaust emission standard and allow European high pressure, common rail turbo diesel engines in. We need to develop a CNG refueling infrastructure and tap that for our vehicles (an easy conversion and the gas is ours).

The solution is within our grasp. Our politicians won't have it! Higher CAFE is not the answer. We need leadership. Failure to act is flat stupid. I guess that we again prove that our leadership is clueless. Electric cars are not the only answer. They keep looking for the silver bullet. There isn't just one. I only hope that someone can breakthrough and come up moon shot solution.

dont you think its ironic that gas stations will raise the price of there gas even though there underground tanks were filled before the raise, therefore, they have not yet received any new/price raised gas and may not for a week or two.

So simple and easy and popular in parts of Europe. I have seen this in Russia and the "infrastructure" is a tanker filled with the gas and dropped off at a petrol station. The car conversion is a few hundred bucks and allows one to drive on petrol (gasoline) or CNG just by flipping a switch on the dash. In Russia CNG is a lot cheaper than gasoline which makes it a popular fuel.

It has nothing to do with Obama, just like it had nothing to do with Bush. The exact same thing has happened/is happening under both presidents.

In light of that, would you agree that it was wrong to blame Bush for the high oil prices a couple of years ago?

It seems there is a direct relationship with trouble in the Middle East and oil prices. By us going to war in Iraq and Afghanistan we made that area unstable, now that things seem calm in Iraq it's Egypt and Lyberia and some other countries. I have lightened up on George Bush since he left office but oil is a commodity and if I understand it right we don't even use much oil from the Middle East. Most of or oil comes from the USA, Canada and Mexico and maybe Venezuela.

I seem to recall Bush being blamed for the New Orleans devastation ... did he have a personal background in hurricanes too?

price fixing is against the law and has been for the last 80 yrs or so.the oil cos do it every time they raise the price,so its the whole us government is at fault and they dont arrest anybody.things will never change.if the current president said no oil increases he would be a hero, that will never happen.if you think these increases are due to the current so called crisis think again.
