Why are oil prices so high? Because they can! What are you going to do about it? Complain! My next new car will be electric. I don't like my electric company either.

And you will pay $4K to $8K more for that model over a similar model with gas motor. Can one make up the difference in savings? Really? Very few I'd think?
And when the warranty runs out, what is the cost of that new battery(s) to replace?

While 30 to 40% of consumers are interested in electric vehicles,,,,only 6% are buying them. The jury is still out....

The ONLY THING we as consumers could possibly do to get their attention would be STOP BUYING their product for a while.

I know this would be virtually impossible but the thought of this boggles my mind. Could you imaging how they might react? All this product with no buyers, what would that do to the price. It is a shame we are so dependent on oil and the related products.

In the interim we are at their mercy and that stinks.

No,,,we are dependent on foreign oil. Way past time that we start drilling USA oil fields and more off shore wells.
ANWAR is loaded,,,,Montana and N.Dakota have huge amounts,,,yet the politicians are afraid the Arabs might not like us, or rebel! Screw 'em!

Also,,,cut out the red tape and build refineries. Its been decades since the last new one was built.

The Toyota Prius is a wonderful piece of technology. They have been building them for about 12 years now. The battery issue is a non issue. They warrant them for 10 years or 100,000 miles and in some states to 150,000 miles. Some of the original Prius cars have 300,000 miles on the original batteries. A recent consumers report did a retest of a used Prius with 206,000 miles and their findings said the car had the almost same performance and gas mileage as when they tested it new. I am not even a Toyota fan mind you, Toyota doesn't give you a lot for your money. The interior of the Prius is cheap looking, the warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles etc. All Hyundai come with a 5 year 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty at no extra cost. Here we go again about what is called the hybrid premium. Look at it this way, you pay 1,000 for a sunroof, 2,000 for 4 wheel drive, $1000 for an upgraded stereo the list of options goes on. When you sell your car with all these options they don't give you S### for them. The hybrid starts paying you back every tankful. I get 50 MPG in the Summer and 40-45 MPG here in NW Indiana in the Winter. My wife uses more gas to mow our 2 acre yard than I use in the Prius. The only way change will happen is if people buy these cars that get great gas mileage. Trust me big business pays attention to what is bought because they are greedy. The oil companies are cutting their own throats, the more they raise gas the more people are looking around and saying, "I was at the gas station the other day and some guy in a Prius only put 8 gallons of gas in his car and he gets 400 miles on it around town. When I am ready for my next new car I will be looking for all electric. The Tesla S is scheduled for production and is suppose to be in the $50,000 range. http://www.teslamotors.com/models I bought the Prius as a personal protest to the Iraq war.

Have you ever seen the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39K36Rw7LYc If the new GM is like the old GM, you can't trust em! I don't know about the Chevy Volt, they call it an electric car, I say it is a Hybrid, again I don't trust GM to do what is right. I am anti BIG BUSINESS, all they do is lie to us. I used to believe what was told to me but through time I now doubt until it is proved otherwise. I do believe in some of the conspiracy theory stuff that is going around!
