Does anyone know if Carmax gives a reasonable deal for a Prowler? I have been trying to sell mine with no luck. Thought I would try them.

I would think EBAY with a lot of photos would get the most national attention.
I searched CARMAX just now and saw no Prowlers at all.

I'd just guess they would offer around 80% of 'wholesale' NADA book value, minus any detail/spot touch up work that the car needs (assuming tires/brakes are above average).

Yellow and red sometimes bring more because they are looking for front row, attention getting vehicles toward the street traffic. Or, if they have a ready buyer,,,they might possibly go alittle higher.

Good luck,,,let us know what they quote you for a strictly 'buy out' price for your Prowler, without trading the car in on something they own.

If you need a low appraisal, they are the place to go. June of 2010 I took my Black Tie with an aftermarket tailer, Hardtop and other mods along with the stock parts. They gave me an offer of $16,500.00 which is good for 10 days. This was good for me as SHE claimed it was worth at least $40,000.00 during the divorce. But, I took it to another dealer which deals in exotic vehicles and they offered my $17,000.00 for the same package. Maybe this is all they are worth??? In the end... I kept the car and SHE got all of the money.
SOOOOOOO... In answer to your question.. You would do better to wait for the right buyer to give you your price (Don't expect $40,000 either). Good luck with your sale. Brad

These places are in it to make money, plain and simple, not "screw you" as some may imply. Sure, they are going to mark the price up for a buyer, and make a good margin. That's how they stay in business though.

You have been given some good alternatives to try ... and along with photos, patience, and nicer weather, people will be starting to think about this type of car to purchase in another 3 months.

Good luck with your sale.

Hi

MY two cents worth, I purchased my 2000 prowler from CarMax out of Miami in 2000 with 500 miles on it. The price was the best I had ever seen for a buyer’s point of view. They were selling about 10000.00 below everyone else at the time. So I as sure they did not give the guy then much. I was also told a year later that they were instructed not to purchase or sell them any more due to the service issues then. I know in 2000 if a part broke it was 3 months before it would arrive...so if you purchase a car from them they were on the hook for a rental while the car was down.. This may have changed since then..
I have sold the a couple regular cars with them and they were more that a dealer on trade...
Anyway that is my story... No where I would sell my prowler...or any higher end car...

There are probably no hard and fast rules for any place. Things vary by time of year, place, the personnel, etc.
Most of the country is not looking for a roadster at this point of the winter. I would hold off for about 6 weeks.
