My sister who works at Reuters News service here in New York gave me this article which will come out Monday 4/3 from the Associated Press. (AP) Daimler Chrysler announces it will produce a 10th anniversay Prowler for the 2007 model year. VP of marketing Donald McCormick held a conference call on Friday with the announcement. "The Prowler was one of our most highly demanded vehicles we have ever produced, so we decided let's give the public what they want." Plymouth Prowler and later Chrysler Prowler were built in 1997, and 1999-2002. Only 11,702 were ever produced. "We will build 20,000 of these" Donald said "Previously these were all built by hand which made them more costly, now they will be made like all our other vehicles, that coupled with the advances in engineering and technology will keep the prices in the 25k-28k range. The new Prowler (P-10) will look like the older ones but with some improvements. It will have a 5.4 liter engine, the headlights will be flush with the body as the original prototype had as well as a hood that opens towards the front. The sound system will be a Bose radio with 10 disc cd changer and power seats will be standard. One other big change will be the use of Foose wheels instead of the old American Racing wheels which were one of the problems with the originals." When asked about the price range Donald said,"Every Prowler will be built with every option standard with the exception of the Howler package which gives the back of the car a pick up truck look and allows more storage then the regular trunk. We figure 3,000 of the 20,000 will be Howler editions. We will aslo be making the matching trailers again for both the Prowler and Howler for around 3,500.00. The only drawback is that these trailers will only fit the new cars and won't be compatable with the older generation Prowlers. Lastly is the colors, we will begin with the first 2,000 cars being the High Voltage Blue, followed by a new pearl white some new two-tones and later some of the old colors." When asked what Prowler owners would think Donald said, "I have been in touch with Mike Krehel who runs a Prowler web-site (POA.com) and the owner of the first High Voltage Blue Prowler which he won at an auction at Christy's, and curator of a Prowler museum. He was not happy with the thought of Prowler being produced again and didn't think the "older owners" would be either, but we worked a deal with him to buy his cars back at what he paid for them plus fill his museum with any 10 of the new cars. Our feeling is Prowler owners have enjoyed there cars for years, now we can offer them for cheaper to the next generation of owners, and continue to grow the Prowler family." These cars will begin production in Nov. for an early 2007 release, the new prototype will be unveiled in July at the L.A. auto sow. |

Yup, good one! This article reminds me of the e-bay/Paypal scams where people who still haven't learned anything about spelling and grammar expect you to believe anything you read. Funny stuff. Happy April Fool's Day. |

Unfortunately this isn't as much of an April fool's joke as jma may think. For some time now, Chrysler has already been working on a bigger, badder replacement for the Prowler, at a better price point... it's called the CROSSFIRE. :-( |

quote: The Crossfire did not sell very well and was discontinued pretty quickly. CJ said it is smaller, harder to get into so the bigger part might not be true. I have never tried to get into one, I am only going by what CJ and a few others have stated. They are a nice looking car but you cannot compare them to a Prowler for looks. They may be a lot faster or a lot cheaper but on a WOW factor they are a 4 or 5to the Prowler's 10. Sorry to disagree with you. |

quote: Rich - I really like the wheels and tires the green photoshopped car. The suicide doors are great too. Eliminating the top bar of the windshield makes it a roadster with no top which wouldn't work for me. Also - I like the look of no side panels but as many times as mine have been off teh car it would be impossible to service unless you took off the entire front quarter panel. Makes a great looking concept though, doesn't it! |
