I went to Boston for 10 days to work and came home to find that my prowler was keyed across the whole trunk? When I saw it I wanted to cry then I wanted to kick some a$$ but now I just can't figure out why someone would do such a thing. Unfortunately I do not have a garage to put the cat in and I only have a car port but there are Mercedes and BMWs all around so I felt OK about leaving it outside. Does anyone have any idea what the cost is to repaint the trunk? I was also thinking about painting the hood and trunk a silver or gray graphite color but since its a Mulholland edition I am not sure about painting around the pin strip. Any thoughts? |

Callryan: Same thing happened to me on the second day I had the kat in Hawaii. Got my door and just a nick on the engine side panel. Cost me $1,800 here in Hawaii. It's a black. |

paint the car two tone the way you want and don't worry about the pin stripe...put on a new one... shame about your Kat.....probably one of the BMW owners, jealous because the Prowler was making his car a second class citizen |

Same reason someone put out their cigarette on my 78 Triumph Spitfire seat while it was parked with the top down and also when they keyed my freshly painted 55 Chevy. Just to be hateful. |

It's so sad that this is the type of society we are living in today. Just a few short years ago I was a teenager (I'm 26 now) that reveled in seeing any sort of exotic car on the street. Instead of making some sort of jealous comment or gesture as many would, I was more interested in what that person did to aquire such a fine automobile, and most imporantly, how I could do the same. I just had such great respect for someone else's automobile, plain and simple, even to a larger extent now. Thankfully I've always walked the path less traveled, and that has allowed me the pleasure of owning some wonderful cars in the past 8 years. Unfortunately, I wish I could say better things about my generation or the generation growing up right now, but I just don't see it in them for some reason. Of course, who knows what sort of low life jerk caused the damage.... Anyway, I'm sure your Kat will be back to as new in no time. I'm sorry to hear of this sort of thing once again. -Justyn This message has been edited by SOCRATES on 02-02-2006 at 09:31 PM |

Maybe it was Karma, giving you the opportunity to do the two-tone you wanted. Still, bad luck though....Maybe you could invest in a car cover (doesnt have to be a high-dollar one) for the future or ask a neighbor to try and keep an eye out when you are out of town...JMO |

I had my fairly new Dakota keyed in a parking lot>>>Sports Bar close by,,,,after our home baseball team lost a MLB playoff game. I was pis$ed, but figured I was parked at the wrong spot, at the wrong time. Was at a restaurant late one evening,,,cat parked top down right out front of window [so I could keep an eye on it],,,,and some moron spit one of those after dinner mints into the front seat!! Wouldn't I have liked to have caught them,,,,,there would have been a heel print in their door or their face |

Did the mint get the smell out of your front seat, A/C? Those wet ones can leave a stain, per your other post. Callryan, sorry to hear about the idiots in your neck of the woods, TOO. They are omnipresent, it seems. The heck with the pinstripe, do it up like you want it done. |

quote: Sorry to hear what happened to your cat. Everyone will have their opinion on just why this scumbag keyed your decklid. Truth is...only God knows. When I drive my cat I try to NEVER brush anyone off. When a person strikes up a conversation with me...I will always try to find the time to talk. I want to show them that I put on my pants the same way that they do. A couple of months ago I was sitting at a red light in the town of Derry, NH. Cars were taking a left passing in front of me. All of a sudden the driver of one of the vehicles that was full of young adults flipped me the bird! For no reason whatsoever!!! All I thought to my self was...how can a person have so much hate built up inside. Who knows...bad home life...the people he hangs out with may be bad...or...just plain jealousy. As far as the cost of the repair on your decklid. That will depend on just how deep the key went. Is the scratch white or is it the color of your cat? This will determine if it went beyond the clear and reached the whole .5 mils of paint. You may be able to buff it out yourself if it's not too bad. Definitely have a reputable body guy do it. Not one of these high output collision shops. JMO Take the time to find one that is knowledgeable and that you trust. Good luck and please let us know how it turns out! Brian |

Some are dead beat losers with not a shred of discipline to get one of their own (ever), and don't think you should have a nice one. The fact that they think they can get away with it only proves the above description. For what we pay in Insurance, we can always return the car to pristine condition, then we stilll have a nice one. They never will ! Life's too short ! If they get caught in the act, their's may be shorter. JMO... |

Vandalism just sucks. Use it as an opportunity to go for the two tone. That will take away some of the sting. Someone (at my work no less) used an ink pen to mark up my driver's seat. I went ahead with my plans to recover the seats with light silver leather. Good luck with the repairs. |

Geez! I'm sorry to hear about the damage to your Kat. I have an H2 and I'm always worried that someone will damage it -- lots of Hummer haters out there. . . but I never gave much thought to the idea that someone would do that to a Prowler. I guess the answer is that some folks are just mindless A-holes. Bill |

I feel your pain. My red 99 was keyed on every single panel. The person must have really hated beauty. Someone like that has some serious issues. It is going to cost me about 3K to paint the car because the scratches were too deep. I even parked it away from other cars. If someone wants to harm your car next time, hopefully a good citizen will see the act and report it. |

This is just the reason my insurance is a $50.00 deductible on comp. My first cat was keyed on the trunk at my daughters wedding, then later sprayed with silly string must have used 4 or 5 cans got it off but that all the silicone always had little spots on paint. My second cat got hit on the hood from something on the freeway made a mess of a small section near the left front, insurance adjuster said $2200.00 less my $50.00 to repaint got it two toned for $1599. and loved the color change. as far as the pin stripe a good body shop painter can put a narrow tape on the DR. Ru after the color is applied before the clear is laid on remove the tape and walla a perfect Dr. Ru with no line between colors block-buster ------------------ |
