What is the best year or years to buy? I think that the 97's have less Hp and that there are some small changes over the years of production, what would they be. Are there any differences when it changed from Plymouth to Chrysler?

Thanks
John

2000 thru 2002 are virtually identical....Plymouth vs. Chrysler....no big differences here either...get the color you like and the best deal you can find and you won't worry about the year stuff anyway....

97 has less horses
no 98
99 rides a little stiffer than the 2000 and newer...also the 2000 up have a different shifter bezel (chrome) and a mirror that tells you time/temp/maybe direction, (I forget )

the differences are so minor it doesn't matter a whole lot....the Main page of this site has "Prowler Story" read it all... it outlines all the differences....

I prefer the 2000 Black... but thats just me !

go for your favorite color .. whatever you get, you won't be dissapointed !

I am with buddy, except yellow. I always wanted the original "plymouth". Although the wings look cooler than the boat.

I guess no one read the stats. I have a 2001 silver Plymouth. My advice is to look around and look close at what you are buying. Buy one you like, in the color you like, from someone that took pride in owning it. I paid more money for one with 375 miles on it. It was just under the max I wanted to spend. (Thats what I told my wife).I wanted a Plymouth because I live about 10 miles from Plymouth rock. I think the car company was named after Plymouth, MA.

Incorrect.

Mulholland was 2001 (Chrysler only) and Orange was unique to 2001 (half were Chryslers). Also 2001 Silver Chryslers. 2002 was a separate model year, Chrysler only.

That's a can of worms I'm not going to reopen.

The home page of this fantastic site is very informative. It will list all the specs and colors associated with each model year. Then it's all up to you. You decide what year and color you want. Why do you want to purchase a Prowler? For investment purposes? Or...did you buy it to have FUN

Whatever model year and color you choose...it doesn't matter...as long as it's a Prowler!!!

TooHipCat is right.......buy whatever you love and have fun with it. I am lucky enough to have a 99 Plymouth and an 02 Chrysler. In spite of the minor differences, I love 'em both.

The difference between the year models really don't make that much difference in my opinon. I've never driven a Prowler I didn't like!
Take your time and wait for the car you want. The right deal will come along.

The most important advice I can give you is to be sure the seller is being honest with you.
Test the seller by asking him if the top leaks.
If he says no,,,find another car and a more honest seller.

I used to own a 1999 Red Prowler and now own a 2001 Silver Prowler. I owned the 1999 for about two months. The build quality was terrible and it felt like it was going to fall apart everytime I would drive it. I couldn't sell it quick enough just to get rid of it. I test drove the 2001 and couldn't believe the difference. I have had the 2001 for almost four years and it has had it's faults, but feels like a totally different car. With the 2001, it has been four trouble free years, unlike the 1999 which managed to find it's way back to the dealer three times in the two months. My case with the 1999 may be unique, but my advice would be to thoroughly test drive a pre-2000 Prowler and then a post-2000 Prowler and make your own decision.

Ive had my 99 prowler for over a year and put 5000 miles on it and its never been to the dealer. Its got 9000 on it now. I absolutely love it. My brother has a 00 and Ive driven it a couple of times when I go visit him up in WA and I really cant tell the difference. It seems by reading posts on here that there are more problems with the 00 and higher but I would buy the color you like. Its just ones opinion on what year to buy. I love them all and wouldnt sell my 99 at all. Its going to the kids if they want it but it will be around in my family for a long time. Just like every car make, there is always a car or two that just didnt make it out quite right.

I bought a 99 Red, NEW and now have 49,330 miles on it. I bought a Candy Red 2002 February of 2004 with 1200 miles on it. I drive the 99 a lot more than the 2002. Partly because I have straight pipes on the 99 and I like to drive in autostick. I have had to replace the transmission sensors twice in the 99. The gas gauge is a little goofy in the 99.
I would not hesitate to buy another 99 and would advise you to buy what you like, the differences are not all that great.
Opinions may vary.
