My mother-in-law and father-in-law were getting ready to leave our house yesterday and we had a very bad storm hit the area. I'm looking out a front window and see our huge Oak come down... Their car was in the way!! Missed our house and also missed the neighbors car by 6 feet. Thank God it fell in the ONLY open area.. The tree is so large the branches sticking up are still taller than some of the other trees around the property. This made our channel 13 news last night. ------------------ This message has been edited by prwlyn on 05-09-2005 at 06:09 AM |

WOW we have a tree about that same size that has been loosing branches and I am afraid it is going to come down. Unfortunately there isn't much open space where it is at. |

If you re-arrange the letters in the word "mother-in -law;" without adding or subtracting a letter; you should derive the word "Woman Hitler" |

Glad everyone got away OK with just the car damage. Who's insurance pays for the car repair--your house or their car? |

I have been cutting trees around here myself because what it cost to have a service do it is nuts. If that tree were here and still standing they would want $3000. Did your house get any foundation damage? the tree looks like it was very close. ------------------ |

Bob, your right on the cost of the tree guys. Here this one cost $1,200.00 for the tree removal and then $750.00 for a backhoe to come in and remove the stump... No damage to the house at all but your correct the tree stood about 10 feet from the front of the house.. The car has been totaled so Mother-In-Law got a rental which is covered on my home owners also. ------------------ |

Glad no one was hurt. Looks like a luxuary car that was crushed. The week before the Stampede we were in Dallas and had some very scary storms there. Everything is big in texas. This message has been edited by BeWare on 05-10-2005 at 09:23 AM |

Well buyer beware!! The Home owners will not cover a penny due to it being and "Act of God"...!!! No coverage for the car or removal of tree, nothing! The pits is that we have the "Best" homeowners policy that Texas Farm Bureau offers with every rider they have and still we're not covered, un-*&%#-believable! Needless to say a new Insurance company is due after 21 years with them and all the cars and house with them. ------------------ |

What about hail? That is "An act of God". We are worried about our tree and our insurance co (State Farm) told Chris that we were covered with whatever it hit if it happened. |

The way they put it is that if the tree did damage to the house AND car it would have covered it 100% but since it did no damage to the house there is no homeowners coverage. If it had fallen and did damage to the house next door their homeowners would have covered their house. BUT since it only damaged a car there is no liability on their part. The only exception to that is if the tree got hit by lightning, then it is covered... Believe me, check your coverage on something like this with your agent if you have large trees around your property. It has to hit the house... ------------------ This message has been edited by prwlyn on 05-12-2005 at 01:12 PM |

I just checked my Texas homeowner's policy and it says the same thing about tree removal or damage caused by falling tree. We will also pay for X, Y, and Z... We have a great insurance company, this clause appears to be pretty standard language. I know it is frustrating to find this out when something like this happens. I hope all works out OK. Dawn |
