We have about 60 rooms booked and there are only a few more reserved for us at this time. If you are thinking about it, you had better quit THINKING and start acting. It is really getting a lot closer than you think. 4 months to go. You won't be able to get a room at the last minute.
Go the Events section and get moving on it. You will be sorry if you miss this event.

TooHip, the journey is half the fun. You will never have more fun than travelling with a mile long line of Prowlers. It is awesome, to say the least.

CJ when I took the boat for Pumpkin Run it was about $230 or so round trip for 2 people and the car.

I have made the trip to Detroit so many times driving around or thru Chicago I cant count, if you add up your tolls and gas it is cheaper to drive but they have been doing a ton of construction before you get to Chicago and just as you are leaving it so be prepared to sit in traffic for awhile depending on when you go.

Now for the boat, I took the slow one and it was in the fall so it was a little cool on deck, but in July it should be warm and they have lawn chairs all over to sit in the sun and relax, I am sure I will make 3 or 4 trips to Detroit this year and I am planning on the boat for all of them. I really save no time as I need to go north to get on it and its will cost me about $120 extra but the saving the wear and tear on the car ( they got some BIG Pot Holes ) and the fact I get off the boat relaxed is worth it.

If you are going to drive and can make your pass thru Chicago during non rush hour use the Skyline route right thru down town, get in the left lane and take all the express lanes it is about an hour shorter drive than taking the loop.

If you are talking of taking boats across Lake Michigan, be sure you check out the Lake Express that ran in 2004 and will begin its season in May for 2005. It leaves Muskegon and arrives on the south side of Milwaukee. From the Milwaukee dock, it is 2 miles north to I-94 West which will take you right to the Dells front door. You'll completely cut out Chicago, the tolls (which are now higher than last year) and the trucks on I-80.

This new ship is a catamaran design and makes the trip across in 2.5 hours. If you take the SS Badger from Ludington to Manitowac, it will take 4 hours and put you 1.5 hours north of Milwaukee and there is no good fast route to the Dells across the state east to west unless you are on I-94. I-94 goes from Milwaukee to Madison, skirts across its eastern edge and heads up directly to the Dells.

I strongly urge you Easterners to consider the Lake Express Ferry. Check it out at http://www.lake-express.com for more information.

I'm meeting the East Coast Possee!!MeanGene we taking the Ferry. The one I took from Toronto was awesome. Movies, bars,Food, beautiful fast ship. Reserve a doz spaces. Be awful careful getting on though. I tore off my tranny cooler cover. You have to go on on a angle, not both wheels at the same time. Steep uncline.

We thought maybe about driving the whole thing to save a few dollars. Have our decision narrowed down to taking the ferries. Not sure which one. The Lake Express is further for us to go and more money. Could save us time though. I do not have any map software to figure it out exactly. Our friend was going to give us a disc, but have not seen him. Would send Jerry out to get it, but he has been in bed for a week. Could be another 10 days till he can go out.
Anyway, if you are closer to the state line, you might as well drive it. Chuck, would be out of your way to take the ferry. Would be fun to get a group to go across though.

Last year Geno got to the dock of the Lake Express and the ferry was broke down. Still had to drive around.

Paul, will seriously look into the Lake Express. Thanks.

Bob, You mentioned construction around chicago. Would it be be to go west thru Indianaplois to Bloomington, IL and then north? Mapquest and GPS says it will take about an hour longer this way. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

True, true..but the trip home convinced me that it was indeed the only way to go! Instead of hours and hours of driving through Chicago, and the construction previously mentioned, it was very nice to just buzz basically straight across from Detroit, all interstate, board and arrive.... lunch outside Detroit, dinner in Milwaukee!
Cant do that goin' around!

It is a very pleasant trip.. .and as Bob mentioned, you get there in a different frame of mind than having to drive it! And...btw... we all drive our own cars onto Lake Express.

Just a word of warning to anybody coming across on the ferry. The Marquette interchange (I-94 & I-43) in downtown Milwaukee is undergoing a major renovation. The boat docks a short distance from the interchange and depending on the time of day, traffic could present a delay. This would in no way keep me from using the ferry, but I would plan an alternate route (south) around Milwaukee, and you should find smooth sailing from that point on. Using the southern route around Milwaukee (I-43 south to I-894 west to I-894 north to I-94 west) will only add about 10-15 minutes to the trip, but could save a lot of time sitting in the possible traffic jam. Just a thought.

They have had constuction of some sort on the loop over the last 10 years and if a wreck happens you will sit for at least 2 hours. Like I said if you get off and take the skyway they do not allow trucks with trailers so it moves prety good but you are in the middle of a sea of $500 cars with people that dont care.
