With all the mods and stuff I have done to the Prowler I am having it appraised today. Thinking about what if I was hit and only get market value for my car. Let's see what Allstate insurance is going to say.

Has anyone else done this?

Let us know ... I am curious too .... but I believ you have to insure it for what it appraises at IF you want it replaced for that ... ?

My insurance company would not insure for more than the market value but said I could show receipts for mods and they would be covered up to market value. On my car, with 97,000 miles that is about $20,000 so I told them I would shopping for a new insurance carrier.

Chris,

You wanted it apraised? I can do that for you as I've seen yours at PTS. It's a very nice car. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

I have Allstate on all my cars except the prowler. I went with Hagerty due to the fact that you can get an agreed value up front and won't have to deal with the market value ( I went with 38,000). Insurance was actually cheaper than Allstate since they only do custom show cars and not everyday driven cars.

I went with Hagerty Insurance Only because they insure my Antique cars and motorcycles. My Prowler is pretty much stock and I have insurance for $55 thousand on it and its cheap money.

But LeLand West Insurance Co. and Parish Heacock Ins Co. were comparable in price also.

If your looking for real Actual replacement on mods and extra's forget about Allstate good Luck.

Haven't done that, but it will be interesting to see what kind of appraisal you'll get.

I have hagerty as well on other vehicles and will soon have it on the prowler. They are great to deal with and know that you own the vehicle in order to drive and enjoy it not just trailer it and look at it. They know what the typical values are and if they feel your requested coverage is excessive they may require an appraisal or documentation to back up your request.

It's great that they cater to car enthusiasts, but the real question is whether they pay up easily and fairly in case you really need them to take care of you.

You and Rich are both on AOL. My guess is that AOL is doing caching to speed up the screen refreshes and make it appear that your internet connection is quicker without updating to the current screen.

OK, I just got some info on Hagerty quote, plus current Kelly Blue Book info--what's 'our' best course of action, fellow-geniuses?

Currently we have State Farm insurance which has been great for ALL previous vehicles we've ever owned, but perhaps not on the Prowler, huh? We pay $780 per year, and I'm assuming coverage equates to Blue Book--but which? Retail, Private Party, or Trade-In...should an accident occur? Here's today's figures on what our '99 w/50k miles is worth [Blue Book]:

Retail: $31,225
Private Party: $27,225
Trade-In: $23,425

A Hagerty quote for an 'AGREED Value' of $35,000 is $807 yr. [$40,000 = $914 yr]

So, would we be better off switching coverage from State Farm [presently $780 yr] to Hagerty [today's quote is $807 yr]?

Thanks to all who know/understand this insurance crap shoot!

Ty-k...consider your self lucky you dont live in New Jersey. We are one of the highest for auto Ins.

My Prowler is thru High Point (use to be Prudential) and its $789. every 6 months. OUCH!!!

I called Hagerty about 3 months before I bought my Kat. They're quote for a year was $790. agreed value of $35k.

I wasnt fond of the fact that I could only put 3k miles a year on my car. Also have heard that if you take the Kat out just for a quick errand, and not to a show. They might give you trouble with the claim.

2K1Orange,
WOW! Had zero idea there exists mileage limitations with Hagerty! Thanks for that heads-up! We don't wanna be limited in that fashion! Heck, we paid extra to have warranty extended to 75k miles, we wanna drive it!

Probably not. Another thing you need to ask an insurance company you are getting quotes from,,,,,is,, "what will my premium 'be' after 'one' chargeable accident?" Most of the companies will more than likely DOUBLE your premium afterwards. On the other hand, if you have been with a good insurance company for many years,,,,,,they will not increase your premiums due to 'one' chargeable accident claim. Keep that in mind. I have been with State Farm for 42 years, and my agent told me the above when I told him I could save some money by going elsewhere. I've had this SF agent for nearly 30 years and he tells me how it is out there. Switch, save on the front end, have a claim, and then pay out the nose on the backend. I do like the AGREED upon value thing, so I will check further into it. JMO

I had to take my car to the district office for American Family show receipts and they took pics and appraised, my car is covered for $55,000 and I think the uncharge over the standard rate was $140 year.

Now the reason I took it to their office was I has another car 69 El Camino SS clone that was hit and I thought my car was covered for $15,000 ( per my agent ) when all was said and done they would only pay off $8500.

So per another post get an agreed value policy!

Toys, Hagerty came up w/ NO Deductible for me, also...until I changed from 'stock' to 'exotic' which is what a Prowler is! Plug that into a quote & you'll see the No Deductible change before your very eyes from $0 to $250! (or more if you select values above $35K)
