The cars that are the most frequently stolen are stolen for parts. There are a ton of Camrys, Hondas etc and that is why they are stolen. The repair parts are sky high and chop shops need parts to sell tod auto body shops. Firebirds and Camaros were also high on the stolen vehicle list. Prowlers are probably never going to be high on the list due to the limited number. If they are wrecked even semi seriously, they are totalled due to the frame being bent. Therefore there is not a high demand for parts eventhough parts are sky high in cost. Or maybe not. |

True. If prowler parts start showing up for sale, it could easily be traced back to a stolen kat. Nobody in their right mind would steal a kat to part it out. In other words, you get your prowler stolen.... it's GONE. You could safely assume that if someone takes off with your prowler, it's on a ship within an hour heading to South America or Asia and won't be found. |

If you look at Grundy's website you'll se that they will insure for an agreed amount that you specify and the mileage is unlimited but it can't be your only car. They have a quote on line form and a FAQ section with a lot of explanations. http://www.grundy.com/grundy_car_insurance.html |

I was shopping around for insurance on the car about a year ago. Hagerty gave me a quote for an agreed value on my 97 of $150K. This didn't include any aftermarket mods. I never mentioned those. Premiums were, however, $2K/year. No appraisal needed, just send them 4 pics (and my written statement from DC mine is #156 of 457 made in 97). I think it had 3000 or 3500 mileage limit. I currently have State Farm and hope to change over to Grundy later this year. Will be getting their quote. As for doubling your premium after an at fault accident, as was stated previously, a wreck in the Prowler will be a total. Insurance can't raise your rates until renewal. If they double at that time, change to another company. You won't have a Prowler to insure anymore. Before going to Hagerty, I had another agreed value quote. Forgot who it was thru, but premiums were also high there. If anyone is interested, I still have those quotes and can post them, but I've basically already stated their content. FYI, State Farm started out charging me premiums based on my purchase price, since they were never in their books to quote. After the 99's came out, they had the 99 in their books and "based their premiums on those" but my premiums didn't change, even tho depreciation value, combined with a MUCH cheaper purchase price, cut car value in half based on what State Farm would pay me if the car were totaled or stolen. I referred a friend of mine who was in comercial insurance business at the time to Hagerty. He HAD a Chevelle. He was pulling it out of the garage and it had a fuel leak at the electric fuel pump. The car burst into flames and hagerty paid up within a couple of weeks. I can also refer you to another if you need send my a PM and I will get his info. He insures a friends Corvette Collection. What our State Farm agent had to say when I asked about Prowler's value in advent of accident/total loss scenario: "STATE FARM SETTLES ITS' TOTAL LOSSES BASED ON A VEHICLES' RETAIL VALUE ONLY ON VEHICLES OLDER THAN 1971 MODELS ARE STATE FARM'S POLICIES ISSUED Sounds reasonable--doesn't it? On ours, Retail = $31,225 so I am pleased with our agent's statement! This message has been edited by Tytanium-K on 01-10-2005 at 10:12 AM |

I just got the phone call, $68 to $72,500. I should have the paper work in a few days. The rates should not go up to much our $60K X5 is about the same as the Prowler. |
