Who has sent off a grille to be chromed by Advanced Plating?
Did you get it back yet?
What do you think of the quality?

Well, I think I have waited long enough on this, time to post my experience.
I have had to send my grill back to advanced plating twice now because I would not accept the results. There is a very large gouge under the top fin, about 1/2 inch wide that runs 3 inches and is about 1/16 to 1/8 deep. It is like the first stage of plating never took, and they kept going anyway. They have it back now, and are trying to make it right.
Remember this is the second grill I have chromed as I did send one to the Fla people years ago and was never happy with the results. I questioned Advanced Plating in detail before I made a deal to have this second one done.

I will admit, 90% of the grill is perfect. Except for this, all fins, both horizontal and vertical are polished. It is the location of the gouge that makes it bad. It is the first thing you see when you walk up to it. It was underneath the top fin. The second, and all of the grill has such a beautiful finish to it, the gouge shows up as if a mirror is pointing right to it. I had to do some talking to get them to take it back the second time. IMO, their quality control could use some re-tooling. Both times the grill never should have left the shop.
I was told they needed to make better anodes (sp) for the plating to grab those locations.
If they fix this, they will have a first class product.
I do have pics, but will not post them as I feel they are so close to a high class item I do not want to diminish their reputation. But I feel the truth had to be told.

I for one feel if a person pays good money for a promised product they should get it.

Hope this does not cloud the issue any, but IMO if they do fix this flaw, they should charge more for the product to recover their efforts. As I said 90% of the grill is stunning. It is no contest comparing this to the people in Fla.

I have know of JD's problem since the 1st grill. I spoke to Tom about this then and he said he would get it corrected. From what I understand the chrome cannot be stripped off the plastic as it can metal. My guess they went over the old chrome and that is why there is the same mark.

Tom is working on getting it corrected. He did tell JD that he would do NO MORE PROWLER grills. I explained to him in the beginning why DC decided not to do chrome grills (they could not get the quality they wanted. He said he could do it. I also have told him there are several owners wanting the grill chromed and hoped that he would continue to chrome the grills for us.

I have talked to Tom a few times this week.

For those that have sent a grill, sorry to say but it will be a bit longer than expected.

For those wanting to send a grill, PLEASE WAIT until he gets the process corrected.

I have asked Scott Karns to take his car over for Tom to look at the grill (JD'S) in the car.

Once I here more from him I will post.

My Advanced Plating grill looks good. It was one of the 1st finished by them (obiwon's was the other)

Let's hope that they get it done to satisfy everyone.

This is news to me. No one, Tom or anybody ever told me they could not strip the chrome off. And I'm the guy paying the money.

Being a contractor, I am in the business of keeping a customer informed of what is going on with his/her project.

I'm getting fed up. Maybe my age is showing, but more and more lately people are forced to either pay over the quoted cost to get a quality product, or have to settle for less, which I won't do with my car. I saw Scott's grill, I wasn't too impressed. Anyway, I will try to keep quiet on the subject of vendors and their quality.

In the next day or two, I will confirm some alternative news on chroming stock grills. With the chrome vendors we use for our concept cars, I have sent out a stock grill to have chromed. I decided to talk to our chrome vendor and see what we can do to produce a quality part. Our vendor is excited about this and has agreed to help us out. I sent the grill out last Thursday, 6/24 and should get it back by Wed, 6/30. I want a better product than is available now for possibly a lower cost than the approx $350.00 cost that you are currently being charged now. My plan is to purchase some stock grills to start with, have them chromed and then I will need your stock grill in exchange for the chrome grill to replenish my inventory.

By the end of this week, I will be able to confirm everything and post pictures and pricing. Please stay tuned.......

I am very happy with my grill from Advanced.
My biggest problem with it is keeping it shiny
between all the fins.

For the record - my grill is red (which is probably why he "wasn't too impressed").

For the "record", I was talking about one of the first two grills done by Advanced. Scott Curtis has it, way out here in CA

Talked to Tom again yesterday, prognosis does not look great for re doing the grill, getting heavier and thicker. Which actually could be good thing if it comes out right. Would resemble more of the old style grills, thick and heavy looking. Never know.

Also, I want to thank another California owner for stepping up and loaning me his spare silver grill for as long as I need it so the Kat won't be grill less while the chrome issue gets sorted out. He read of the problems through here and sent me a private PM. Again, many thanks.

JD--couldn't you just fill the gouge and use the chrome paint on the underside of the top fin, or paint all the undersides with that paint to match? I know it's not perfect, but should be a lot better then the first grill.
BTW, I feel guilty now.

You should feel guilty Al,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Taking a man's grill like that, with hardly any sense of remorse.

I just spoke with Tom, the grill still has the gouge in it, just less. I I will try your suggestion Al, but it definitely was not my first choice.
