I am going to get the rear bumpers painted on the Candy Red. Should I switch the left bumper to a PLYMOUTH bumper and get shimmers or is that stupid since it is not a Plymouth? Should I keep the plain left bumper and only have the Prowler highlighted or shimmered? I am interested in your reasoning as well as your opinion of which would make more sense or look better. |

Ed - the Candy is a Chrysler. Paint the bumper the way it is and just Shimmer the Prowler since it is the only indented part on the rear bumpers. Now if you can figure a way to get "Chrysler" on the left bumper...... Marty |

You already know my opinion....they are all chrysler products.....I would put the Plymouth bumper on it to balance it out........and everyone one knows I like my cars to be 100% original "IF" I had a Chrysler Prowler and was going to paint the bumper and not change the left to a plymouth for balance.....I think I would fill the prowler in the right and have nothing on them at all I once bought the Lexus ES 300 emblems to ship back to Japan for a guy to put on his Toyota Windom. Different name, SAME CAR |

Regardless of the fact that the later models were "called" Chrysler, The Prowler is a Plymouth. Put the Plymouth bumper on. At one time, I had intentions of buying a second later model Prowler. If I had gone through with it...I would have made it a Plymouth. |

......I would leave the bumpers black and just put the shimer(chrome) on the one side...black bumpers sort of disappear, painted makes them stand out too much for me, especially on the front....but, if you want the shimmers on both sides, Plymouth or not wouldn't make any difference from my viewpoint, 99% of the population wouldn't even notice.......WELL, YOU ASKED ....... |

Ed; I have one of the five pilot Black Tie. I liked the clean look of having only the Prowler name (with shimmers)on the right rear bumper. I purchased a newer left rear bumper and painted both bumpers black. My 2000 Black Tie pilot was titled under Chrysler, not Plymouth. Another great thing about Prowler owners is that everyone has their own ideas of what looks great. Keep spending! Roadster |

Lose the bumpers!!! What about filling in the Prowler and having both bumpers plain? I personally would probably add the Plymouth |

ED, this was a good question WOW!! If I had a chance to do it I WOULD put the Plymouth bumper on, I think it was CHEAP that DC did what they did.

Ed: I agree with Marty. Candy Red bumpers, one plain, one with "Prowler". Get a bright contrasting shimmer. And post photos when you're finished. Kevin ------------------ |

Candy Red is a Chrysler. There was no longer a Plymouth brand in 2002 when the CR was built, so how can it be termed a Plymouth? Since we know you prefer stock cars except for the mods... This message has been edited by CJ on 04-09-2004 at 10:44 PM |

Thanks for the replies, so far. Keep them coming. It is interesting to see the division of ideas. I started thinking about this a few weeks ago. (I knew I would paint the bumpers as soon as I got it). I asked Butchcee and Alley Cat in an email and they both said go for the Plymouth. That was my thought, too. Then I asked Sandy and she said leave it plain. I respect her opinion for anything remotely artistic but I also respect Al's and A/C's opinions (but don't tell him). I bought a set of rear bumpers today to get the Plymouth half so I may have three bumpers painted. Sorry, Larry B., I like the Candy colored bumpers much better than black, even glossy black. This is a legitimate question, I really do want to hear opinions. I don't know if that will affect my decision in the end, but I am interested in what you all think. I do not care for the roll pan look especially but to each their own. I don't think it is horrible, I just prefer the stock look more. I hope no one is offended by that statement. Maybe after I have a plain and Plymouth painted, it will be easier to make a decision. Sandy told me to have Jay make a custom shimmer, "Monahan's Prowler". She is not allowed to ride in either cat until she apologizes. lol. She offended my sense of STOCK. lol. CJ, you posted while I was typing. I understand your point, completely, and that is the flip side. Sandy says one side shimmer would look fine. This message has been edited by ed monahan on 04-09-2004 at 10:52 PM |

I would go with the Plymouth bumper. As said before most people won't know the difference. Question: Would that make it a "stock" Plymouth? |

Rich Diamond has a gold kat that he accidentally installed a Plymouth rear bumper on. I always thought the one bare bumper looked like something was missing. We were standing around talking in Galveston one day after lunch in the restaurant parking lot and some guy was checking out each of our cars. He finally came over and asked if he could ask me some questions. He wanted to know what Rich's car was, 'cause he has the Plymouth bumper, but the Chrysler badges. The guy was totally confused, but it did get him to look scrutinizingly at the detail of the cars. |

I'd go find a Plymouth left rear bumper and then paint them both candy red, w/Shimmers added. The cat 'never' should have had a name change one year away from the end of production. What was DC thinking? No need to answer that question, as there isn't a good enough reason for me to accept!!! It was born a Plymouth and didn't get a sex change! Huge blunder and to some extent, the following sales reflect that decision. JMO On the other hand Ed,,,,you could paint the right rear bumper along with the left front bumper,,,,,leaving the right front and the left rear,,,black. That would be in character with you, lol. |

A/C, I bought a set of rear PLYMOUTH bumpers today. That is the direction I am leaning. I have had the 99 bumpers painted for 3 or 4 years and I really like the look. If and when I get the front end chromed I may do away with the front bumpers. Heresy, coming from me. I figure I might as well get everything painted at the same time, the bumpers, new side panels, hardtop. If I do the Plymouth bumper it may be a one of a kind Candy. Wayne took his off, CJ has hers painted but kept the Chrysler plain bumper and I don't know about the other 298 Candy cats. I told Sandy to work overtime over the week-end. lol Dale, A/C already (in an email) suggested changing the hood badge to Plymouth also. THEN it would be a stock Plymouth Deep Candy Red Prowler. lol Then I guess the next problem would be which color hood badge! This message has been edited by ed monahan on 04-10-2004 at 01:39 AM |

Ed, I just purchased a front and rear set,and had them painted silver for the Black Tie. I saw CJ s car and liked the look. As for the Plymouth... I like the way it balances out the back. The bumpers have dates on the inside, so I think it is a good move that you are saving the originals. Regards DQ Man |

Ed. Painted bumpers (same color as car) are 100% improvement over stock gray or black... I would NOT switch to a Plymouth left bumper. It's a Chrysler Prowler (no matter what any of us wishes DC had not done to change the name). I had considered asking Kal to paint the Chrysler name on the left bumper. Maybe some day I'll still have him do that... I would fill in the Prowler on the right bumper and than have him paint Chrysler & Prowler back onto the bumpers using the brushed Prowler style...

For what it is worth. I have a 2002 Silver Chrysler Prowler. Period. I put yellow shimmers in the right bumper and painted the calipers yellow and put a yellow cat a the steering wheel. I like it. If you have a Chrysler and the Plymouth name is gone in 2002 you have a different story to tell when people ask "what kind of car is it?". You cant tell them it's a Plymouth because it's not! GUB gave me an idea.....painted bumpers....chrome Shimmers Prowler on the right.....chrome "Prowler Kat" on the "plain" bumper.....that way, the bumpers look balanced, but not of the Chrysler/Plymouth controversy.....just a nice chrome Shimmers Kat |

Ed,on my car bumpers are painted black with shimmers on both.Plymouth offsets it really nice,I think that having a shimmer on just one side looks kinda odd. I would either have both sides shimmered or just leave the Chrysler as it is unshimmered! |

Ed, I would do the painted bumpers without the Plymouth (since it is a Chrysler). You can use chrome shimmers and then pick up a chrome "Chrysler" wing logo or just the name Chrysler form the local dealer for the blank side. I used a "cat" shimmer in blue (designed for the side marker lights) on my rear bumper and it turned out nice. I just used a small piece of Pearl flash vinyl from my side flame to hi-light the center cut-out of the cat. |
