Finally! Joined the ranks of prowler owners.

Picked up an untitled orange 2001 with 201 miles on Dec 11.

Brought from a Michigan dealer, car was at his vacation house in Florida. Decided to go ahead and drive it home.

Made it 1100 miles with only one ticket, 100 miles into the trip. No not speeding! Had all paperwork, proof of insurance, and valid temporary registration from Michigan with a dealers license applied for plate. Fl State Trooper pulled me over and told me I needed a Florida tag and could get the same from any dealer, tax collectors office or DMV. The #@#$$% nice officer informed me he could impound the prowler until it was legally registered in florida but did me a favor? and only issued a $48 tag violation. DMV and tax collectors offices were closed. Stopped at the first dealer I came (the nose scrapped the driveway going into the dealership and scuffed the bottom of the bra and the passenger side seat belt guide broke about the same time) and was told they can only sell tags and collect sales tax on cars they sell. I would have to go to the DMV and would have to pay Fl sales tax to get it. The car is being tiled and used in Illinois.

With no options left in florida went ahead and drove it (illegally??) out of the state. What ever happened to one state honoring another states valid registration???????
Nice way to start off the drive. NOT!!!!

Made it home after this with the only one more problem, a blown headlight.

Surely prowler ownership can only get better now.

Plan on attending some events this year and hope to meet other owners.

I don't know what was on the cops mind, but if the car was titled to a dealer in Michigan and you live in Illinois, there is NO NEED to register your car in Florida, you don't live there or even have an address.....think the cop was wrong in this instance....otherwise, EVERYONE that visits that state would have to register their car....something wrong here....I would send them the ticket with a copy of the Michigan title, and a copy of the Illinois registration along with a thank you note for being so cordial during your visit to their friendly state.....along with an "IOU" for the $48

PS....you will absolutely love your Prowler....the orange is a great color and getting one with only a few miles is even better....congrats and welcome to the POA

Thanks for the support. Any ideas for a new screen name.

The prowler experience can only get better from here and I do hope to meet other owners at some of the various events.

I did also talk to someone at the Florida DMV and they also took the position that the car had to be registered in Florida to be legally driven on their roads. I still don't understand their logic.

I think the trooper just wanted a closer look at the car, to write the ticket he had to ask me what was the make,(should have lied), model and year of the car was, guess he couldn't read the make and model off of the back bumpers.

!st off Congrats on getting the new Kat!!!! Life just got a lot more interesting for you and yours!!!!
I live in the beautiful sunshine state.... that officer doesnt know his stuff. I bought my Prowler new from a dealer in Minn. They shipped it here with a Min. temp tag on it. I drove it for around 2 weeks with that tag on the car. Here in Fl the temp tags are like a paper version of the rear tag. In Min it's a small paper in the window with the dealership plate on back..... I got pulled over twice, both times I show them all my info and they said no problem. I did get my FL tag eventually, FL DMV sent it to Min. 1st for some reason???? But it all worked out. I would say your ticket is bogus. But is it worth the hassle to fight it from out of state for $48.? For what it's worth.... I'd chaulk it up as one of those many lifes journeys....... Just the 1st one with the Prowler. Once you start driving it more and more.... you'll realize there is never a dull moment owning one!!! Enjoy it.

Congratulations and welcome, and I personally think you picked a GREAT color!!! The other folks posting here are correct...life will get "more interestinger" and "more interestinger" for you...and I don't mean the Florida cop. Remember, they're human too and some are just smarter than others...) When you're out on the road Prowlin', notice how many people will pull up, slightly to your rear, on the left or right of you, cruising along looking at your car. Then after a few minutes they'll pull up along side looking at your car. Try not to cause too many fender-benders!

Congrats on the new car! As far as the tag issue I have bought cars from all over and been pulled over on the way home and never got a ticket like that, the temp tag issued from the dealer you bought it from should be enough, as far as the tax it needs to be paid in the state you register it in. I drove a new camaro I bought in Iowa in Minnesota for 6 months on a temp tag until the paperwork was straightened out, I would contact the dealer you bought the car from fax him your copys and let them work it out.

Congrats on the pick. Good choice. I've been pulled over many many times a lot for indecent exposer or driving with a thong on.I guess depending on who you are it mite be considered offensive. I find a small bribe will go a long way.Buying your way out of any problem is just the American way.(PS KERRY EXTRA CASH WHEN TRAVELING)
