After six weeks (while I was working out of town) I finally drove my kat home from Westech Automotive in Silver Lake Wisconsin. The good news is on Saturday I watched my kat with the new rebuilt engine and new custom exhaust headers produce 220 RWHP on the chassis dyno - the headers were worth over 10 HP. With a 112.5 HP shot of nitrous, RWHP pegged the 300 HP mark instantly leaving us to estimate it was good for 310 or so. With another 37.5 HP of nitrous, the car should produce 340 to 350 RWHP. The bad news is all the power produces WAY more sound and heat and blew out all the fiberglass sound deadening material in the new mufflers in a blaze of an amber glowing missle shooting out of the tailpipes. Now the db level is back to over 100. Good news - The new Torque Thrust wheels look great!! Bad news - On the way home a tractor trailer passing me on I-65 (yes, I was actually only driving 5 MPH over the speed limit) hit something in the road and threw it into the left side of the car. The driver's side front fender has a crack and a Quarter size ding and there is a 2 1/2 inch slash under the driver's door. None the less, it is great to be home and have my car back in the garage. Marty Glad you're finally back together. Oh the hazards of actually driving these cars. Mine has been hit twice and all you can do is fix it and keep on driving it. Enjoy the drive and wipe that silly grin off your face. ------------------ |

Since it's a daily driver and the damage was slight, I am not too upset by it. I'll have it touched up after PTS. The car has been sitting for over 15 of the last 21 weeks and I am looking forward to adding to the 60,000 plus miles on the odometer. Marc - some of those miles I will be adding will be 1/8 and 1/4 mile at a time! :D ------------------ |

Marty, congrats on the dyno numbers. Are you sleeping with your Kat tonight. I probably would if mine had been away for so long. As for the Battle Scars; as a previous President used to say: "I feel your pain" I have a nick in my hood from a similar incident regarding an 18 wheeler. I too, probably will not repair it until after PTS. Just not enough time now. Look forward to seeing those "Balls of Fire" shoot out your exhaust!! lol See you in about a week. Marty, it seems the good news outweighs the bad news by quite a bit. Congrats on the new power. Glad to hear it is running strong. |

Marty, I haven't quite figured out why when you baby a machine it tends to break down more often then not. The cars you tend to not care for run forever even if you do not change the oil for 10,000 miles. Sorry about your fast machine .... I had a ride in JD's kat over the weekend and it is a BAD looking machine. The paint job is out of this world. He was very secretive on his engine modifications. It felt good when he accelerated. He kept showing me how he could make his Kat burn rubber on second gear. After a ride with him, I was curious if my Kat also could do that. It turns out I can burn them out on second aswell. I won't go down that route about the fast theme because I have not kept up with the mod world. I want to stop being a POSER like JD is . He is one of the worst offenders on this board... Later... ------------------ |

Marty, sounds like you're getting your project together. What type of torque numbers are you getting? Got a graph of the pull? |

Al - no dyno print out. Curtis - I plan do get to an 1/8 mile track either this week or right after the Smokies Event. There are still some tuning issues and exhaust/muffler/sound thingfs to do, then I will get it on a local Mustang dyno for some pulls with readout and torque figures. The major thing we were looking at Saturday during the dyno run was fuel delivery so I don't run lean again. Marty

quote: Tom - there are many of the Paxton cars that are hitting over 300 RWHP. I was happy to see that it pegged the 300 mark as soon as we hit the nitrous switch. I'll be looking forward to posting final numbers when the project is complete. Marty

quote: Hey CJ - After all the time the car has been away, I am REALLY happy to be driving it again. The ding and scratch don't make me happy, but I am NOT all torn up over it. The car needs a complete detail and the flames need touching up, the front nose piece needs to be removed and repainted, etc., etc., etc. All those things will have to wait - I wnat to drive and have some fun with the Prowler now. If it isn't the prettiest kat at the Smokies event, at least we will be there having a blast. See you next week. Marty BTW - I didn't steal very many parts from the Rumbler's engine that were sitting around Norm's shop! :D ------------------ |
