In October, I will have had my kcat 2 years. I will also have to pay for another years license plate. I got the bill today from the state for that license plate (actually a sticker - the plate stays with the car forever). They only want $866 for that sticker. How much is the license for a two year old car in your state? Tonight, get on your knees and thank God that you don't live in a socialist state. ------------------ |

Ted: I think they have to charge more because you have the absolute BEST color! Here in Minnesota, just a few years ago I would have paid about $500 for a 2-year old vehicle such as ours. But, one thing that Jesse Ventura did during his term as Governor was lower the license tab renewal fees. Now I only pay $199 for a 1 year old car, and it goes down from there each year. I had an '89 Nissan Maxima until last year. I paid $35 for the tabs the last time I renewed. Kevin ------------------ |

I paid $585 for one year sticker. Atleast our roads for smooth. I think Michigan should pay the people to drive on/in those pothole paths they call roads. I heard Idaho is $36 for two years. |

Here in Oregon we pay the same no matter what the age of car... $ 30.00 for 2 years. If it is a custom plate it is $ 80.00 for 2 years. |

In Houston I pay about $65 annually. I think its based on weight and region. My aunt in Montana said they don't have to get tags all the time. You just have to backpay for those years you didn't get them when you finally do get them. I don't know what they would run, but my uncle has a 56 chevy that has only been registered once... in 56. About 10 years ago or so, my aunt bought him some new personalized tags for it for a birthday gift, and thats when I found all this out. She wouldn't say what they cost, but did say it was alot of money. ------------------ This message has been edited by idive on 07-31-2003 at 12:48 AM |

We used to pay an excise type tx on our cars and our vehicle values were based on what the state felt the value of the car was. If it was still in place our tabs would also be between $600-800, but since the antitax initiatives, we now pay about $33 each year for cars. We pay a little more for trucks/RVs, based on GVW of vehicle. If costs had not dropped, we would not be owners of our RV or our Katts. |

Here in Indiana, the plate fee for one year is ($701.00) BUT since we have the lottery some of the money is used to offset the fee so it really cast me $406.00 this year. |

Good to see that the lotto money is going to some good somewhere. Ohio is not based on value like many of your other states, around $50 regular, $75 personalized. |

you should all feel just fine after this. on top of the fees to register the plate, we here in MO have what's called "Personal Property" tax (legalized double taxation if you ask me). every year I have to pay $997 just because I bought the car. only after I get the receipt for that can I pay for my plate renewal. makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it. |

OMFG, Sunbird I hope you're kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rolled the Cali. registration into the sales price when I financed the car I got in Texas, so I never paid any attention to the DMV fees!!!! I'm having a #%)*$ing heart attack!!!! Mine is due next month - there goes my savings for the Tom Milss turn signal kit, right down the toilet. Of course, for that ridiculous price, we enjoy the privelege of paying the highest gas prices in the country, driving on the crappiest, most congested freeway system, and dealing with the dumbest and rudest DMV employees in the entire nation, so it isn't like we aren't getting our money's worth here. |

I can't believe you pay that much for license sticker in California. They charge $74 for one year and $20 for plates unless they are personalized($200)! |

Dead End Don - Not kidding, actual bill was $866! alee & RPROWLER - You snuck under the wire, they'll get you next year. Al's Prowler - Al, there is a fine line between a socialist state and a police state. This is definitely a socialist state, but we are not yet a police state (but the way it's going, who knows). There is a movement underway to recall the governor. All preliminaries have been met and it will now go to a ballot to the people. That may help, it all depends who gets put in to replace him. One problem here is the amount of people who vote that aren't US citizens. |
