CJ....I am not calling on you to do this....you have your hands full with the POA ....but I gotta question.....I don't know anyone to send care packages to and they don't recomend sending them to "any serviceman" due to terror....I know your son is over there somewhere, could we mail POA packages to him to distribute to his buddies, or is he anywhere near the front where the stuff is needed...any thoughts or ideas...or if you wanted to take donations and prepare the packages your self, YOU would rest assured the packages are all safe.....how long does the mail take...would it be too late getting there.....any details how this could be accomplished ???...looking for ideas....what a neat concept, the POA sending care packages to the troops.....I will donate $$$, product, or anything I can to see this thru...just looking for ideas....

If there is some interest in this, I could get some names of troops to send packages to. My family has sent some packages over there and may know of some more names of troops to send packages to.

While it sounds like anice charitable thing to do, the US Government has asked us NOT to do stuff like this. They are requesting ONLY care packages or ONLY letters from FAMILY.

...this is as reported by CNN.

Their reasoning is good:

- Hard to get packages to troops

- Too many packages from non-family takes longer to screen each package for bombs, anthrax, etc...

Sorry to put a damper on it, but they just don't want this stuff right now...

Larry,

Ben is correct in his information. I have heard the same thing about sending packages. It would certainly be nice to show support by doing this. However, I would contact your local Red Cross Chapter and check with them. My son has always said that if we ever needed to try to get in touch with him, to contact the Red Cross and they would interecede on our behalf with the Air Force.

With regard to my son..........we have no idea where he is, let alone how to send packages to him. His job is not conducive to our mailing him anything. Again, I would suggest that your best plan of action would be to contact the Red Cross and see if they can help with any information on how or if this can be done.

Here locally they are putting together groups of people and are taking donations of cash and food to help the family members at home with day to day task's and financially to help with any hardships due to a reserve member being called up for duty. They had an example of a family of 4 left at home when the husband was called up for duty 3 months ago and between house, car and household expenses they were falling behind $1600 a month.
