My wife and I are thinking of relocating to Kentucky from Wisconsin. In fact taking off end of March to check it out. Any of you Prowler owners living there have any suggestions where you would want to live if you had to move within the state? Thanks |

The area near Lexington is very picturesque. That is horse country with a lot of very nice horse farms and Keeneland Race Track. Lexington is not really that large and you can stay fairly close to the interstate system, if that is your desire. Louisville is much bigger and has a lot more to offer but also has a lot more traffic. You are near the Ohio River there. Northern Ky, near Cincinnati is literally booming, especially near Florence, KY. The Greater Cincinnati Airport is in Hebron, next to Florence and there is a lot of industry there, close to the airport. Farther south is prettier. You probably do not want to move to southeast KY. Hi Bruce. Rebecca & I live in Louisville. In order to answer your question I guess I will need to ask a few first. Is there a reason you decided to move here instead of some other state. If you have family or friends here that may influence where in the state you may want to locate. If not to move to be near certain people, what image of life here do you have in your mind that makes you want to move here. Western Kentucky is rolling hills, mainly rural with lots of small towns. Eastern Kentucky is in Appalachian Mountains (just big hills compared to the Rockies) but generally less affluent and much less open farm land than the rest of the state. The triangle area of Northern Kentucky, Lexington, and Louisville has a lot of diverse areas as Ed has mentioned. Lexington has the horse farms and you better be or become a University of Kentucky fan to fit in. Louisville has a great Arts community including outstanding theater and music venues. Cost of living is low here for the size of the city, now the 16th largest in the country - metro area is 49th overall I believe. Feel free to email or call me if you have specific questions. Mike chiming in from Lexington. Disregard Marty's "UK fan" stuff, that's just sour grapes from a U of L fan over Pitino's Cards flaming out at the end of the season, while UK was sweeping the SEC!  But seriously, Lexington is rated fairly highly in most lists of best places to live. Not too large, not too small. Bruce,I live in Lexington and it is a nice mix of large and small cities. My son lives in Louisville and other than a lack of a basketball team it nice, but you got to love lots of people and traffic. A plus for Lexington is that go 3 miles out of town and their is beautiful country and nice places to live. If you have children in school (K-12) go private if you can afford it. Lot's of housing in all price ranges. Louisville is close (1 hour in a Prowler!) about 90 minutes away. Like Marty asked what brings you this way? |

Rebecca & I can be ANYWHERE in the county in less than 30 minutes and in 75% in less than 20 minutes. Lexington is certainly nice also. Let us know what kind of info you are looking for. |

Bruce, as you can see the Hatfields and McCoys are still at it. lol. KY is a beautiful state and has a very varied topography. I like the Lexington/Georgtown area the best. I don't like UK or U of Louisville. Xavier may be a national player this year, U of Cincy is having a poor year but could catch fire. Wayne, I know. Thanks to all who responded to post about Kentucky. We were thinking about moving there for property tax relief and better climate. Looks like I'd better become a college basketball fan to survive though. Will be contacting some of you soon . Thanks again. |
