bruce hazeltonMy wife and I are thinking of relocating to Kentucky from Wisconsin. In fact taking off end of March to check it out. Any of you Prowler owners living there have any suggestions where you would want to live if you had to move within the state? Thanks
Wayne FinchJust stay away from that Ohio border.....there are some bad dudes livin up there
ed monahanThe area near Lexington is very picturesque. That is horse country with a lot of very nice horse farms and Keeneland Race Track. Lexington is not really that large and you can stay fairly close to the interstate system, if that is your desire.
Louisville is much bigger and has a lot more to offer but also has a lot more traffic. You are near the Ohio River there. Northern Ky, near Cincinnati is literally booming, especially near Florence, KY. The Greater Cincinnati Airport is in Hebron, next to Florence and there is a lot of industry there, close to the airport. Farther south is prettier. You probably do not want to move to southeast KY.
I am sure Marty can add a lot to all of that.
Ignore Wayne, like I am. lol.

Wayne FinchEd, I'm disappointed with your reply. You know I only put that up there for your sake.

I actually really like the rolling hills of the Kentucky horse country. Very nice!

Marty UsherHi Bruce. Rebecca & I live in Louisville. In order to answer your question I guess I will need to ask a few first. Is there a reason you decided to move here instead of some other state. If you have family or friends here that may influence where in the state you may want to locate. If not to move to be near certain people, what image of life here do you have in your mind that makes you want to move here.

Western Kentucky is rolling hills, mainly rural with lots of small towns. Eastern Kentucky is in Appalachian Mountains (just big hills compared to the Rockies) but generally less affluent and much less open farm land than the rest of the state. The triangle area of Northern Kentucky, Lexington, and Louisville has a lot of diverse areas as Ed has mentioned.

Lexington has the horse farms and you better be or become a University of Kentucky fan to fit in. Louisville has a great Arts community including outstanding theater and music venues. Cost of living is low here for the size of the city, now the 16th largest in the country - metro area is 49th overall I believe.

Feel free to email or call me if you have specific questions. My cell phone # is 502 386-9642.

jmcant1Mike chiming in from Lexington. Disregard Marty's "UK fan" stuff, that's just sour grapes from a U of L fan over Pitino's Cards flaming out at the end of the season, while UK was sweeping the SEC!

But seriously, Lexington is rated fairly highly in most lists of best places to live. Not too large, not too small. Sure there is more going on in the Greater Louisville and the Greater Cincinnati areas, but I don't miss their traffic!

Dale BeamanBruce,I live in Lexington and it is a nice mix of large and small cities. My son lives in Louisville and other than a lack of a basketball team it nice, but you got to love lots of people and traffic. A plus for Lexington is that go 3 miles out of town and their is beautiful country and nice places to live. If you have children in school (K-12) go private if you can afford it. Lot's of housing in all price ranges. Louisville is close (1 hour in a Prowler!) about 90 minutes away. Like Marty asked what brings you this way?

Another UK fan I see. UK may well end up with another National Championship but will still be #2 in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, or have you forgotten the score from December 28th? I believe UK was on the short end by 18 points!

I guess # of people and traffic is relative to where you have been. Compared to Baltimore, Kansas City, Dallas or even Indianapolis or Nashville, traffic is much better. Rebecca & I can be ANYWHERE in the county in less than 30 minutes and in 75% in less than 20 minutes.

Lexington is certainly nice also.

Let us know what kind of info you are looking for.

Point taken Marty. UofL whupped UK but good! But it was in December... 20 wins in a row since then for UK. I think Louisville went 17-5 after that win. And still, sweeping the SEC is no small task! When Louisville was still ranked way up there I was hoping for a UK, UL, FL, TX final four...

Sorry if I hijacked the Moving to KY thread...

Mike

jmcant1blubyu,

Do you have a Mulholland? Did we meet at Parkette last summer (your car wasn't with you)?

ed monahanBruce, as you can see the Hatfields and McCoys are still at it. lol. KY is a beautiful state and has a very varied topography. I like the Lexington/Georgtown area the best. I don't like UK or U of Louisville. Xavier may be a national player this year, U of Cincy is having a poor year but could catch fire.
Wayne, I know. I am proud of you for knowing that Ohio and KY abut, so to speak.

This past weekend I was in the Lexington/Georgetown area. I found one of the nice things about it was that the interstate was so close and allowed you to go all around the area fairly quickly. Like also mentioned, the property prices range greatly. I will be promoting one house for sale there in the $130K-$140K range and will be posting details about it on my website soon.

Bill,

Next time you are in town, send me an email! I'll buy you a beer!

Mike

Dale Beamanjmcant1. That wasn't me at the Parkette. Mine is the Silver 2001 that was at Man O War Ford last fall.
Marty UsherBruce - if you and your wifemake a trip to Kentucky to look at the very areas, let us know!
ed monahanBruce, if you move within the next three weeks, make sure you come to the KY Speedway on April 5th. lol
bruce hazeltonThanks to all who responded to post about Kentucky. We were thinking about moving there for property tax relief and better climate. Looks like I'd better become a college basketball fan to survive though. Will be contacting some of you soon . Thanks again.
Marty UsherBruce - sorry to cut the conversation short yesterday. The gate agent shut the jetway door and I had to beg to get on the plane!! Call me today if you have time. I tried returning your call but could not get through to number you called from.

Marty
