The Damiler Chrysler Grinch tried to steal my kids Christmas when I needed another over priced Prowler part. I almost bought it the heck with the kids Christmas money (besides, they bark a lot). But....I'm proud to say I said no to the part. I kept the Christmas spirit, amd there's plenty of "Ol Roy" dog food for all the kids this Christmas. Quick..without looking it up in the parts catalog (no cheating) how much do you think the "wholesale cost" on this headlight switch escutcheon is? XOXO ------------------ |

Three bucks. Am I right? If it's more than that put "Jack TWD" up front on the bumper and have him bark when you are close to something at night. You won't need the headlights then. Have a good Christmas Chromer, and all. If that dog food is good enough for Jack it must be good enough for you and your kids. |

I think somebody is adding a little to the price. The retail price for the bezel, part number PF81LAZ is $24.00. Let me know if you want one. |

Roughly $68.75 at dealer cost!?!?! Yikes! That'll round up to around $100 after mark-up and tax. I agree, Chromer, I'll think I'll live with it rattling around headlight switch knob. I was thinking of some kind of glue as well, but it would have to be a pretty thin line around the back. Otherwise, it'll glob out and look pretty ugly. CJ -- How did we do it? I dunno. It just happened on its own. (Probably when pulling the headlamp switch out too firmly just one time). |

quote: Text CJ, I guess the same way Tarzan (and other caring Prowler owners) broke theirs. By turning the headlights on at night. Shame on us for expecting that obviously well built and fairly priced part to hold up at least as well as a Yugo. |

Chromer - lots of black duct tape!!! That is DUCK tape to our California readers I've seen two others break in Az. Think I will use TLC when pulling out that switch from now on. Chromer, maybe you could auction off Jack's hair to make a afghan coat to cover the cost? |

Tom Mills, I called Denver Lithia Chrysler first thing this morning to verify the orignal quote on the switch bezel. Your quote is much, much closer than the one I got in November when I talked to "Tim" the parts guy. I'm a little surpised the mis-quote wasn't caught then because I got fairly irritated at what I considered to be a rip off cost. The price I was quoted this morning for the headlight bezel part # PF81LAZ was $33.41. Thanks for doing some research on the part (I thought I had done mine). If it's not too much hassle, If you can get me the part for $24, that would be appreciated! Black Tie, CJ, AC, |

Chromer, mine broke off at about 10,000 miles and the dealer replaced it. It then broke off again but out of warranty and, like you, I almost s%#t when they said the price.. I put superglue around the backside of the collar and it has not moved since. If the light switch ever has to be replace it can be removed without removing the bezel piece.. The knob and shaft releases from inside the switch and the switch comes out the back, no need to remove the bezel.. For what it's worth dept... ------------------ |

quote: Gasp! Maybe you'd better sell it before the whole thing falls apart and look for a "perfect" car. Just curious as to how hard you have to yank the headlight switch to get it to do that? Sorry.......two cats.......three and a half years......no broken bezels, no broken center caps, no flaky chrome, no tears in the roof......etc. etc... guess I am just extraordinarily lucky!! Do you suppose the "dealers" might have something to do with inflated prices? |

CJ, you do not have to pull hard on the switch, in fact you don't have to do anything except turn the lights on and one day you notice the bezel is broken when you can't get the lights to turn off because the bezel is hanging out.. This has nothing to do with anyone abusing their car except for driving it daily. I don't think you can compare the weekend use to a daily driver. In my 45,000 miles on the 99, it came with pitted wheels, not noticed when picked up, dealer replaced them. The hubcaps break VERY easy, no 400 lbs gorilla taking them off, just my careful self. You actually have to take them off to know they break. The rear defogger wire broke from putting the top up and down to often, I guess. The bath tub of water leaks even after the rubbers were replaced, opening the windows too much?? The worn spot in the top under the back window where it rubs on the trunk carpet, even when strapped down. This all goes to the car is like any other car, things break through no fault of the owner. Now if you ask me do I love my Prowler, you bet I do!! I own nothing but DC products and the others don't have as much wrong with them. ------------------ |

quote: If we approach this logically, I think we'll find a very simple explanation. I don't want anyone to get upset, but I believe that all of the statements above are BACKWARDS - the breakage occurs GOING IN, not pulling out. Here's what I found: I gently pulled out the switch on GRROWL. The bezel was VERY loose and wobbly, so I pulled it forward onto the shaft. The three legs on the bezel are all intact, but it went back in very easily and even rotated around the hole. Here's what I believe happens: From what I have seen, I believe this to be almost a certainly. In fact, to prove it can't happen when pulling out the switch, try this: I'd be interested to hear any other analyses or opinions. -GRROWL |
