OK I admit I was one of the people who pushed the car until the fuel system cut off - once and I beat the BMW M5. Stupid - oh yeah! Other than that one time I drove it up to 115 on the way home the day I bought the kat. I don't think I have been over 100 since and probably have only hit 90 on rare occassions, generally driving 5 to 7 over the posted speed limit on the interstates. I find it fascinating that some people have never been over 75. I guess I got skipped when that gene was being handed out. What's your story on the fastest you have driven your kat? ------------------ Driving my Dream This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 11-11-2002 at 01:31 PM |

Ran 106 a few times at Englishtown - dragstrip. Also ran only one set-up race on a long stretch of road against Nowell Whatshisname when he was driving the Kiss Prowler before he sold it. I blew him away, but never looked at the speedo before braking quickly to avoid jail time. I've been a very good boy since moving to "drive it any time you want" Florida. |

A friend of mine received the first Prowler in the area, he had a "small problem" with his license but wanted to see what the car felt like at speed....I drove it to around 120 mph to give him the thrill of what it would do....I don't think I have ever had any of mine near 100 mph, probably 85-90 tops...but I recently had one of my Vipers past 175.....think that was my all time personal best for any car I have owned...have had different Vipers in the 150-165 range many times, but the 175 was a new record for me...previous to the Vipers, probably was a 69 Dodge Daytona(approx 140-145 mph)....had it topped out quite a few times during the years I owned it... |

Had the black kat up about 111 one time and it seemed to be out of poop on a long long wide highway all alone normal about 75 on ca freeways had the Orange "SUNKIST" to 90 passing the other day, but again about 70-75 is normal get run over at 65 out here. Other then that the fastest Ive ever been in a car is 158 on the drag strip in a blown gas supercharged car, spent a lot of years doing that block-buster ------------------ |

I HAD to catch my girlfriend at 119, she had quite a head start and it was important to tell her "I Loved her" before she got home. WoW was it cool, back road in the country, but like most I keep it within 5-7 mph of posted speed. But was exciting once, now i'm back to my cautious self. |

I've had the Prowler up to 145 MPH going down hill. This happened 2 years ago I was trying to catch a Porsche Boxster S on I-95 between Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach coming back from the Tower shops cars show. We pretty much stayed in the HOV lane since it is empty at 10pm on Friday night. (Every Friday night in Ft. Lauderdale great car show with 500-1000+ cars at the Tower Shops plaza.) Top down at 140 MPH the air coming up off the rear fendors is almost defining because it is right behind your ears. Also the front end gets a little light, Not to mention your gas tank gets empty really quick! Once in a while I'll get the Cat up to 110 MPH here in New England. ------------------ |

never had my Prowler over 85....but I am a new owner (apparently not as crazy as Marty), someday I may venture into triple digits. Most of my high speed kicks have been on a motorcycle or my Viper.... about 165 on the street. things are moving real quick at that velocity.....it's plenty quick on the street. I will try to link a cool digi photo: This message has been edited by Eric Lesher on 11-13-2002 at 11:45 AM |

Hit around the 123-125 range on a normal highway here in PA. 1 time Open strip on 202 no real traffic top down. To get to higher speeds 3rd gear seems to give you quicker accel 4th gives you the top end later. No problems, seemed to work hard to pass the 125 mark on normal flat ground. Was a bit windy that day. Just wanted to see what I could get. I guess I'm a bit biased on speed since I also ride the Suzuki Hayabusa 1300CC sportbike motorcycle which at 550LBS is capable of 160HP,10.3 1/4's, 0-60 2.8 sec, 0-100 mph 5.3 sec, and has gotten me speeds of 187 plus on a few occasions with plenty of room left to spare. The prowler is still way fun! But its far better to cruise this ride. More thumbs up per a mile!! This message has been edited by treyb on 11-11-2002 at 12:24 PM |

Sorry to the BMW fans, I thought it was 5M instead of M5. In any event, to summarize the encounter on the nearly deserted I-265 outerbelt all I can say is nitrous can be a wonderful thing! The guy (I assume) came up in the left lane beside me as I was cruising about 75 MPH and he started hitting the throttle and backing off. After his fourth or fifth attempt (which was ample time to arm the nitrous system) we both nailed it and the extra 150 HP was too much for him. The Bimmer never got close until I hit the limiter. Adolescent, yes - fun, a blast! But I still hope I have enough sense to not do that again. |

I don't think I will ever top 75. I have owned enough camaros that I drove like I stole it... But for me the Prowler is all about stylin. I am shocked at how fast some of you have had your Prowler run, considering the absence of a true functional roll bar! |

I guess I'm a weenie next to all you guys. Highest speed - 89.48 miles per hour on the 1/4 mile track at No Problem Raceway at CTC. Guess I need to find a set of "golf" balls on e-bay to bid on. |

BT161 and Kendra - your ways are certainly safer. I have always loved speed. Six tickets before my 18th birthday. I was in my early 20's when I sold a motorcycle when I was in my early 20's because I knew I would end up killing myself because the sensation of speed felt so good. Then I used the money from the bike on a down payment for a boat. 305 Chevy V8 inboard/outboard on a 19' runabout. So what did I do? Installed new cam, heads, lifters, intake and carb plus lower resistance through the transom exhaust. You ever taken a fall on waterskis at 63 MPH or try to maneuver a boat at speeds over 70 MPH? I don't suggest it. Maybe when I get my engine back to running better, I will limit my extra speed antics to the track! It is boring driving a three cylinder Prowler that I can't rev over 4000 RPM without smelling oil. |

I never dynoed my boat but played with the pitch of the stainless steel prop to be able to pull four skiers on slaloms or one time in a ski show a 7 person pyramid. My 124 MPH on a Honda 750 that got the high speed wobbles was scary enough to know I did not want to do that again. |

Kendra - I fell on my face, turned my eyelids inside out and lost both contact lenses. On one side (can't remember which) I was left with a slightly blackened eye - looked like I had been punched. |

110-115 ish in the Black on highway 99 just south of Bakersfield. Mine seem to run out of juice after 110. Takes forever to go faster. ------------------ |

Never have had the kat above 90 and that was at the track. Had a 70 Camaro with an LT1 engine at the age of 17. My best friend and I were late for our dates whom we were meeting in another town about 30 miles away, so I had it up to 130ish all of the way there (made it in record time ). Had an Iowa State Trooper pull out behind me with lights flashing, he attempted to catch up and for some strange reason just pulled back over to the side of the road and turned his lights off. I knew at that point I would be seeing another one up ahead so didn't bother to slow down since I had already been caught, but no other officers ever showed up and we made our dates on time. Tami |

For those of you wanting to go fast,,,be sure to put your top up (less drag) and keep your car in third gear to keep it in the torque range. The V-6 engine just doesn't have enough power to overcome the wind resistance in fourth (overdrive) gear. Top speed top down for me is 122 California Speedway 2000 with the Good Guys, 123 into turn one and 118 into turn 3! My passenger asked me to let him out. Said he wanted to make the car lighter so i could go faster. Yeah Right! Sissy! This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 11-11-2002 at 04:18 PM |
