Why were you going 135 MPH to meet a jerk? How fast did you drive to meet Ken? Enquiring minds want to know.

Since Bob won't let me drive my cats to the cottage (dirt road), I did borrow one from DC one weekend and drove it up there. I took one of my neighbors for a ride on the open country road. She started to panic when I got to 100 mph, so darn............I had to slow down!

I've only had the Alley Cat up to 108,,,,,guess I'm on the slow boat....

Other adventures:
165 mph in a 427 Shelby Cobra,,,what a rush and still had pedal to go.
145 mph in my '96 Corvette
138 mph in my '67 Firebird 400/335 hp
132 mph in my Nissan Maxima 3.0 front wheel drive
109 mph in my Dakota in downtown Denver, trying to make my dinner time with Marc and Alex,,,,was still late!

At the time I didn't think he was a jerk - but that's another story. I'd drive 145 to meet Ken!!! Tami

You people rock! (except for Ed)

I'm keeping my Kat to within 10 mph of the speed limit. Call me safe, call me a wimp...I just can't bring myself to fill my "need for speed" with this vehicle.

And, as you can tell by the photo on the left, nothing above 0 mph for the next several months (lol).

I did manage 120 in a State Patrol cruiser — but that's another story.

Kevin, were you in the front or back seat of the cruiser?
The fastest I have ever gone was about 550 MPH in a 777.

Front seat. I was doing a "ride-along" with a Trooper in one of my "previous lives" when he got called to a head-on crash on the other side of town.

It was a very interesting night. I had to sign several consent forms and before we begain his shift he showed me how to access his shotgun, "In case he got in trouble".

Reading all your replies reminds me of a book I read that just came out. It's "Cannonball" by Brock Yates. It's a pretty good book about all the Cannonball Runs he organized peppered with first hand accounts by the participants. Talk about things happening while doing 130 MPH!

The most amazing thing about the book is realizing that the movie 'Cannonball Run" is 95% FACT .....You would not beleive how many things in the movie actually happened!

When I meet you in person I will tell you a couple of stories that have a similar theme.

Kevin - I did a "ride along" with a friend and his partner when I lived in Columbus, Ohio in the mid seventies. Because he had a partner I had to ride in the back seat. WE stopped at Wendy's about 10 PM on a Friday evening to get dinner and one guy walked up and asked if they fed all their prisoners on the way to jail?

The bad news about being in back mis you can't get out unless they open the door for you. We had one high speed chase with the speedo reading 100 several times. The chase ended when the guy rammed the back of a semi. Not a pretty site!

Carol and I were going down 83 south when a guy with his two sons (it appeared) came by and stepped on the gas then backed off while looking over. That was it !! We nailed it and hit 140 mph and then saw him in the rearview mirror.
We both got off at the same exit but he didn't want to run anymore. Oh, you just have to love what Paxton and gears can do...

I guess I'm the wimp of the crowd.
I've had mine up to about 95. It started drizzling rain and the car felt a little unstable and I backed off.(It could have been my courage that actuaaly got unstable)
A couple of other times I've had it up to about 90, but either the lack of confidence of fear of a ticket slowed me down.
I'm not a total wimp though. I went to the Petty Experience driving school and got up to 145, which was all they would let you do. I also did a ride-a-long and we got up to approx. 175.

Only could get mthe kat to just over 120, but I had a kid and his little girlfriend in the rear view wondering what happened! I'm not sure how much more I could have done, but I agree that once you hit 4th, things don't happen as fast as it does from 1st to 3rd. Top was up and it did feel a bit light around then.

Tangled Up in Blue, Where the hell do you run 175?!?! Hopefully not on the street...

Mike

p.s. Probably not had the Cat over 90, but I haven't had it a year yet. Had a VW Sciroco up to 106-108 when it went airborne. Thought I was a goner, but it landed and stayed straight. Got pulled over in it later passing a semi on the interstate at about the same speed. State trooper said he clocked me at 78... I just said Yes Sir, I was doing every bit of 78 (55 limit days). I lost my taste for raw speed, but still love the power thang. Woodward is a blast, all that horsepower rocking on the street...
