This is my third Prowler and I probably average about 500 miles a year (possibly less).

I don't put alot of miles on mine because I think they are a great investment or that mine will be worth more then one with 5K miles on it.

I don't put alot of miles on mine because I love that new car feeling. You know, kinda like when the dealer hands you the keys of a new car for the first time.

The leather feels crisp and new, the paint is flawless, the front has no chips in it or the windshield. Perfect in every way each time I lower the car and take the cover off.

My other cars get used alot but each time I drive my prowler, it's like I just bought it a few minutes prior.

I bought mine with the notion that I'd drive it to work (only 10 miles) a couple of times a week, and then just enjoy it on the weekend.

That worked until they delivered my car. The problem is that the car is so much fun to drive that I am spoiled for anything else. As a result, the car is now my daily driver to the office and back.

I'm definitely putting more miles on than I originally wanted to, and it has become more work than I thought to keep the car looking perfect at all times. I'm like you - I don't want to take the Prowler out unless it looks 100% perfect.

But if I'm not having as much fun with it as I could because it's garaged all week, then what's the point?
At the end of the day, it is just a car. A unique car, for sure, but still made to be enjoyed.

Yellowfever: I dont really put to many miles on my Kat either. Well, not after I flew to Ohio to buy it. From there I drove to MN to show my family and friends and then back to FL. Now I put about 300 miles per month.

I would like to ask why you think the car is a good investment. I'm with you in a way. Besides being fun to drive, I think because of the limited number produced they will go up in price. But, then I started thinking... I don't know of a car that ever has gone up in price unless its 30 years old.

I agree with Trey.

For me, nothing beats the look, feel and smell of a new car, except perhaps being with my wife.

Work with me people, the thing's not paid off yet

Anyway, I'll probably put about 500 miles on it each year, only in dry weather and never take it out in the rain or during the winter.

Part of it is selfishness, part of it is for investment purposes.

What's not paid off yet... the car or the wife?

I don't drive my Prowler as much anymore because:
1) Impracticality - No trunk space means no place to put the large shopping packages
2) Parking - Lack of good parking at the places I go and ignorant people who do not care about other people's property
3) Sometimes I simply just don't want to drive it. I weigh the enjoyment of driving it versus the crap that goes along with driving it and if the crap outweighs the fun, the Prowler stays parked and I drive something else.

I put 28,000 miles on mine in the first year and a half. In the past year I have barely driven 4,000 miles. Like previously mentioned, if it is garaged all the time, then what's the point? That is why I am still debating if I am going to keep mine or not. There are no other cars I am interested in (however a black 360 Spyder would sure look nice in the garage), but if I don't drive mine more, it will soon be sold.

When it does come out of the garage, only on nice days of course, I put about 150 miles on it at a time. I do try to drive it to work when the weather permits, but never intended it to be a daily driver.
Being the show off, I like to take it to events, and the occasional car show.
I'm not really worried about or keeping up with the mileage, but it is still pretty low, about 6300 now.

The first three years I only put 5000 miles per year. Six months into the fourth year of ownership, I have already put 8,000 miles on it. I have had more fun this last six months than the previous three put together. I stiil avoid driving mine in the rain but only because its a pain to clean afterwards. I don't drive it to work because of the crazy drivers in GA and the vandelism we have had in our office parking lot. Beside it is not enjoyable moving only 15 mph in bumper to bumper gridlock. I have decided life is too short. Partly I guess because I am 57. But I can't see keeping the car in the garage all the time as an investment. I could get hit by a truck or something else could happen that I will not be here tomorrow. So I am not going to worry how many miles I put on it. I am just going to enjoy it while I can. For these same reason I don't have allot of money in savings. Why should I work all my life and not get any enjoyment from the money I worked so hard for only to pass on and my kids get the benefit of all my years working. I already told them they will inherit allot of stuff but not much money so don't count on it. So I am going to enjoy my money and the car while I am still young enough and able to. No offense to anyone, each to his own. This is JMO.

I have a short driving season, so I drive mine every day that I can. I took delivery on the Candy Red in early February and I just turned over 6800 miles today. I have enjoyed every mile. I don't know how much the cars will be worth some day, but I don't have mine because I look at them as an investment. I don't believe in having them if I can't drive them. They give me too much pleasure to sit in the garage covered up (except during the winter).

Mine is my daily driver. I don't want the headache of maintaining/ insuring another car for rainy days.

The downside of driving it daily, is taking the awesomeness of the car for granted. I get to the point where I think..."What ARE they looking at??" then I remember what I am driving.

The car is too cool and fun to drive to leave covered. I don't care too much of having the car be pristine forever, (although I will wash it immediately after driving in rain), but why pay so much for a car and just leave it covered in a gargae?

My 2002 Kat that I took delivery on 7/12/02 has 2883 miles on it. I don't put many miles on it because it is not my daily driver and was never intended to be. I bought it as a fun car to drive on nice days and on some weekends or holidays. I love to drive it but it is impractical for a daily driver for me due to my lifestyle and work. I take my kids to school some days and to activities on nights and weekends. Even to events my kids want to take friends, so a 2 seater doesn't work. Almost daily I drive others in my work. As a daily driver I need seating for a least 4 and room for gear (bookbags, sportsbags, breiefcases, etc.).
I use a Chevy Tahoe and my wife uses a Mercedes SUv as daily drivers.
I do drive the Kat on nice days that I don't take both kids to school and on weekends. Once about every two weeks I'll take one kid to school in the Kat and my wife takes the other. I will flip-flop for the next ride. They love to do this. I did drive it to a business convention this week because I was traveling alone and had room for the clothes, etc.
I have sent a hitch to be chromed and have a PT rack. Once these are on I plan to use the Kat more for such things as my son's hockey practices/games, because it can put his huge equipment bag on the rack.

What's interesting about this discussion is that is that it means that at least for the next few years, there will probably be a small but steady supply of very low mile Prowlers available for those with patience.

Frankly, I don't see this as a car that I would keep past 25-30K miles, due to the service problems, etc. It just doesn't seem like a robust, 100K mile car, nor do I think it was intended to be.

BUT...I would definitely buy another low mileage Prowler if/when this one starts showing its age.

I bought an inca gold hoping that it would maintain more of its value than the standard car or prowler. I do keep it covered and only drive when it isn't raining. With 3 other cars and a harley, I've got plenty of other things to drive, but I take the kat out whenever I can. I think as long as you don't put 100k miles on it or wrap it around a telephone pole, it should retain more value than a generic ride like a corvette. As far as an investment, only time will tell.

You misunderstood what I was saying. I meant wsa I don't think a low mileage Prowler will be that great an investment. Yeah, maybe 20-30 years from now but, that is not my motivation.

I just love that new car feel (perhaps the reason we trade our daily drivers almost yearly, if not sooner).

I've been married 15 years now and during that time we have had about 65 new cars, 7 new boats, 4 motorcycles, and 1 jet ski. Once the newness has worn off, I'm usually out shopping again.

Keeping the mileage way down on the prowler allows me to keep it longer and enjoy it more. I also spend about 3-4 hours detailing it after every time we take it out

Yellowfever- WOW! Thats a lot of new cars. I'm 34 and this is only my 2nd new car. Well, ok, I bought my Kat with 4,300 on her, but thats new to me. I'm sorry, I misunderstood your comment about investment.

I would probably have a high mileage KAT if I did not travel out of town for business 8 to 12 days a month for 10 months of the year.

What would high mileage be to you? 1,000,000 a year? LOL!
