Have any of you guys used 110 Octane Racing Gas in your car? If so, did you add it to your current gas or did you only run the 110 Octane which is a low lead gas? |

J. I've never run 110 octane... I run Sunoco GT unleaded (103 octane) whenever I run on drag strip. I usually try and get my tank down less than 1/4 and add five gallons of the Sunoco GT unleaded. I've also tried the VP 103 before and Sunoco GT plus (104 octane) both unleaded. ------------------ |

I've run it a couple of times. Both times topped of about 1/4 - 1/2 tank of 93 octane. Expensive stuff ($3.39/gal.). |

Leaded or low lead fuels will hurt Cats and O2 sensors. Running the VP 103 gave me 372 hp at the rear wheels, 340 hp with Good pump gas. ------------------ |

Have any one seen an increase in 1/4 mile times with higher octane fuel (103+) compared to a 93? ------------------ |

Spoons. I may run in another vehicle with and without the 103 unleaded octane fuel. My first run was the quickest (without the 103 octane). I ran eight times after (with the 103 octane) and the times didn't match the first run... All my times were close and consistent. I think the main advantage of the higher unleaded octane is to prevent or miniimize detonation and provides more consistent times when the engine heats up... I was runing in two bracket races and toward the end I had only 10 minutes between runs... My use is more precautionary when on the track... |

Then why does the manual say "Fuel Octane above 91 is NOT recommended"....? I read with my 300M (same engine, sort of) that using higher octane than recommended is actually detrimental to the engine!!! |

There are a lot of things in the owner's manual, on stickers, warnings, etc. that are included in case of possible litigation. In Laddie's situation where he is running an aftermarket supercharger (That I am sure is not recommended either) the higher octane will help prevent detonation which is absolutely detrimental to the engine. I usually add Octane Booster when I run my nitrous system but noticed the track has 103 Octane fuel so I plan to try that Wednesday night. Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

I have read and heard Pat Goss explain that using too high an octane is detrimental to the engine due to the fact that the computers are only calibrated to accept a certain grade. If you are putting 103 in your car just for giggles, you may be doing damage almost as bad as detonation. BUT if you are running NOS or a supercharger, well, that's a different ball game. |
