I almost never use it. And I get real mad when I forget it is in Autostick (when I DO use it) and hear it wailing in first gear and I look down and say "Ugh..I forgot I was in Autostick".

How often do you guys use it????

Black Tie 161:

I use the AutoStick all the time.
I find the shifting in automatic to be a little rough, but more importantly for me the shifting is more fun and I love the sound from my Mopar/Borla exhaust at an upshift or downshift. I think the AutoShift is great because I can get the proformance and feel of a shift without having to press a clutch with my long legs in a tight compartment.
I can understand why a purist may prefer a straight shift, but I love the AutoShift and at the end of the day that's what matters!

I use the autostick everytime I drive it. Mostly when I am coming off the freeway or to a stop light, I will drop it down and then downshift. When I start back up... FUN

I also use it when I drive through the canyons. I LOVE THE AUTOSTICK

I stand to be corrected but, I think about a year ago or so, there was a post in here proving that in "D" versus autostick was faster on the track.

Personally, I think it is just a novelty that most car manufacturers are using these days. My wife has it in her Mercedes 4-Door E320 (hardly the performance car one would buy)

IMO, I think if they (all car manufacturers) were to do it right, they would add the paddle shifters versus having to leave the wheel and slam a stick back and forth.

There is another option other then “Auto Stick”..?

I live for it! If I could have gotten my kat in a stick, I would of , so this is the next best thing.

The only time I use the Automatic is when I need to back up…

Auto stick 99.9% of time. As far as being faster at track, I have read that most people keep in in D so they don't miss ashift and hit rev limiter. I have been "testing" and can hold the car in Autostick for 300 RPM more than D in first gear and 400 more in 2nd. I plan to try it at the track next week and see if I get better ET's.

I use The Stick every time. I not only gear up and down like
the Porsche 911 drivers, I use the down shift to save on
brakes. I also like to compare the acceleration in shift and
Automatic.

Marty; I have tried it both ways at strip, and tried it once
running past the 1/8th mile pole in automatic, then shifting
to stick and winding it the rest of the 1/4 mile in 3rd gear. My experiences are that if you run 5 times, you will
do better in Automatic at least 4 of these runs. Laddie has
much more experience that I do running the Kat at the track;
and, I believe he will agree with my findings.

I use the Auto-stick everytime I drive, mostly for down shifting instead of braking.

Larry - I have only run once at track (1/8 mile) and did three runs in D. I certainly plan to do as you and Laddie have posted and keep in 3rd to finish 1/4 mile. I do plan to try a couple of runs in Autostick to see if the extra high end RPM's help time at all. I am hopeful that since our top HP is at the high RPMs this will lower the ET. Of course I run the risk of hitting the rev limiter and shutting down the fuel supply - which isn't good with the nitrous on!!

Off the track - Autostick is the only way to drive the KAT for me.

Thanks everyone....I find your individual answers very interesting. I may use the Autostick more based on your cool replies....I might even save some brake dust (haven't got the ceramic pads yet) by downshifting......I always feel it puts undo strain on the tranny, though I am sure it is me.

Almost never but that is probably because most of my cruisng is done on the Interstate. Only use stick when not pulling the trailer and I am in a playful mood.

I only use the auto shift since it's as close as you can get to a standard.
I have the autoshift in my Acura but it won't let you shift into first and it limits the rpm.

So that's what "D"'s for ...

Obviously I use this setting all the time. Would love to have a stick, but not in this Kat's leg space.

I know I recently read an article on Edmunds stating that only about 15% (I think that was the percentage) of new production wasn't an automatic. They keep perdicting that manual will be gone soon.

Only time I EVER used autostick was to keep from having to clean the rims so often.... You are right it does help with the brake dust to downshift instead of brake...... Try it, and you'll be amazed of the difference it makes......

This feels like deja-vu all over again - didn't I post to this already?

I use my autostick all the time - to slow down. I find that GRROWL has more "go" than "stop" and have gotten into the habit of downshifting back-then-left to slow down quickly. Otherwise, it's usually in "D".

I only use mine when someone asks about it, to show them. Then, once in a while, if I'm cruizin' about 30 MPH; I'll use the autostick to get down to 1st rather than auto putting me in 2nd.
