I have a 99 Kat and have thought about chroming up the wheels (buying a set or chroming the ones I have). Will this decrease the value of the car because they are not the original rims that came with the car?

I don't know about dropping the value. I thought about buying a set of chrome. But so many Prowlers have chrome wheels I think having the silver helps make ours more unique so I decided to stay with the silver.

Prehaps in 30-40 years when buyers are looking for cherry original Prowlers. Doubt it will have much impact if you keep it or sell it in 5-10 years.

Well, we will all be dead within 30-40 years...(except for young folk like snapcase). So who really cares about future value and originality?

I bought it because "Life is too short to drive a boring car!"

I am keeping the silver wheels, that's the way it came and I agree with Rich. As far as I'm concerned the monetary value is part of it. The value from this site and the people I've met can never be diminished, I don't care if the car is only worth $1.00

Agree with the others...do with it as you please......will not hurt the value or help it either for that matter.....another idea....used wheels are quite often for sale on EBay...buy a used set of chrome or buy a used set of silver and have them chromed.....bottom line, do as you wish....the value is in your eyes....

Since I'm in the car business I'll try and answer your question since no one else here has.
Chrome wheels will help now more than in the future. As these cars get older, condition and milage will be more important rather than if a car has chrome wheels or not.
The only time that it may come up is if someone is looking at two identical cars and one has chrome and one does not, but, as I said, in a few years I don't think this will be important and excellent painted wheels may be preferable to old pitting chrome ones.

JRL,
I agree with you in part but, if you look at older cars (50-60's) the ones commanding the highest prices are all original (regardless of mileage, although lower miles will pay more). What people are looking for are cars that are 100% original and everything matches (ie. VIN numbers)

The pitting problem was another reason I decided to stick with the painted wheels.

I thought you were keeping the silver wheels because Brenda SAID SO

I had my wheels chromed. I love the look. The value is mine to enjoy...who cares what it is worth when I'm gone....hehehe

I do think as the car ages the silver wheels will hold up longer...but the real thing about ALL NEW CARS will be the electrical gremlims that will put most of our cars in storage because they will not run and NO ONE can fix them.
