My Prowler has been getting a little hot on the highway with the air on. So I decided to flush the raditor. So off to the parts store I went, I bought Napa antifreeze and some purple stuff to make it a little cooler. So about an hour and a half later I'm done, I burped it, checked it, cleaned it and even tested it. Everything was fine so I went home and checked it again. The gauge still went above the halfway mark but seemed ok. So I took the car to work the next morning everthing was ok. I left work going over to a friends house and I look over at the gauge and I was running HOT!! so I pull in the drive way and water was flowing out of the car NOT HAPPY. I wait till The car cools down and fill it back up with water. After about an hour I get back in the the car and get about 4 blocks in the car keeping my eye on the gauge going in the red, so I turned around and asked my friend if I could keep it here till Monday when the dealership opens.

Not a good day.

Let us know what they find, mine seems to be running a little warmer than it had in past summers and I'd like to know what they find with yours.

Chris - if it went HOT in four blocks, sounds like a thermostat problem. Al Becker just went through an extensive 'overheat' problems,,,,finally, new water pump and thermostat got the cat cooled down. Maybe email him to chat about it,,,,,he is now highly schooled in this area.

Chris: Sounds like a stuck thermostat, have replaced many - not a tough job on the ones I've worked on, but couldn't tell you about the cat. Good luck and let us know what happens! Tami

This happened to me once right after I changed the antifreeze. Apparently, the flush and fresh antifreeze can clean out old accumulations that were plugging leaks. In my case, it was the waterpump. Seems more than a coincidence that it happens right after a change.

Flushing radiators can stir up a lot of junk to clog up those fine coils....

remember the post that said that there was a lot of casting sand left in the block? maybe it made it's way into the rad core. I've had the antifreeze changed a couple of times. I seem to be running cool.

I noticed the sand. My guys looked at me and said what did you put in this car? This is the first time I have flushed it.

sounds the same as my problem of a month ago, CNote. New thermostat and no problems since... Good Luck !

Aggravating, (mine had about 8000 miles on it then) but proved to be only temporary.

Since then, went to Woodward and back, over 10,300 now, still no problems

You guys may have this one diagnosed, but also check the relay for the electric fan. That was MY car's problem after only a 1k miles and when driving around town got VERY hot and then puked all fluid ... was fortunately at the DC dealer when it happend. New relay, no over heat problem now.

Had over heating problems in AZ this weekend... put into a local shop Monday as it was getting worse. "They" said the Kat had the wrong fluid and an air bubble... cooler but still not "right" going back "in" soon.

Chris,
If the stat don't work, have the pressure checked. Had my checked after overheating problem and it turned out that I was only holding about 4 lbs. of pressure. Should be about 17, I was told. Replaced cap and all is well so far.

After a 3 hours outside and the car apart everything seems to be ok. The drive to the house the Kat was running hot for about 10 min. them it seemed to cool down to half way. I will check it in the morning.
