Hello all. Back safe from the Woodward Dream Cruise. I had a lot of fun. Good seeing Ken and some others from the Milford cruise in, and great to meet Bob 'Real Rod'. Sorry we didn't get a chance to sit longer and have a few beers.

I was somewhat disappointed at the Prowler turnout. Probably 20 or so Prowlers, but every time I went to Pike Street there was never really any activity. Had hoped to meet CJ but heard that she cruised by without stopping.

My 'I'm done' attitude is history. Need gears, high performace exhaust... super charger? Must smoke tires... Heard some of the anti-Prowler sentiment. Some jerk yelled "Is that front wheel drive". I responded with the "Where's your car?" that I read here last year. Resisted the urge to add a word at the end.

Pontiac was not in Pointiac this year (their concept tent, etc). Crowd seemed definitely down in the show lot. Less Prowlers, if there was an organized Prowler cruise I missed it. I had fun, and think Woodward is a one of a kind event. I hope it's not on it's way out...

Mike (yes, I'll be back next year)

Good seeing you again . I too was a little disappointed in the fact that we didn't all stay at the same hotel and hang out in Pontiac. But, I did get to see much more of the cruise than in years past. I spent quite a bit of time on Woodward - both cruising and sitting on the sidelines watching cars go by. BTW - Make and Karen Gatlin are still alive and kicking! I would say there were at least 30 -40 kats on Woodward. Probably only ~15 in prowler alley. Next year ???

Steve, we ran up to Pontiac hoping to see you guys, good to see you and your Dad again, Jesse too...da kid is growing up. Ken, your car is lookin' good, anyone who gets the chance needs to check out the "shimmers" and engine compartment details...it is as sharp as you will see.

Mike, sorry we didn't meet over the weekend, I think we heard 2 catcalls as well; "boy we've only seen 2002 of those here today," and "I'll bet thats as fast as that car can go," ...can't even give them credit for clever or creative! High 5's, camera flashes and great comments out ran the asswholes about 800,000 to 1...always a few who don't get it...can't get it, or wouldn't know what to do with it if they did get it.

If you think the woodward dream cruise is on the way out, you should have come down woodward to the Royal Oak Berkley area, most of the cruising and events is down that way. Driving is a mess, down that way, but a lot of fun, about a mile in a hour, so much to see down there it would take days to do it all. I saw CJ drive past the dealer were I bought, and had my car parked, yelled out hi CJ, but just another face in the crowd. I ended my day by driving up through Pontiac on my way out of town from 13 mile road, south bound traffic was backed up for miles. Looked for Pike street and a group of prowlers, couldn't find it, so me the wife, and miniature prowler headed home.

I like Pontiac because it is NOT 1mph. The cops let just about everything go. Folks lining the street down from the green plastic fences pour 5gal buckets of water on the street for burnouts. Even right at the end of the loop there is lots of smoke and tires chirping. I'm not real interested in getting into a bumper to bumper, barely moving trafic jam. Like I said, I'll be there again next year. Hope to see more of you there then!

Mike, since I am usually the shy retiring type I will step out of character and give you a little info. There was a total lack of planning and "a failure to communicate," according to Cool Hand Luke. CJ was basically told to "butt out" and she was the primary mover and shaker as virtually everyone knows. The basics were posted but that was about it. No side events, no inside information, no promotion, no "let's all meet" or "let's all eat" was ever posted and it is the small things that make an event a huge success.
I had a conflict in schedule and that is why I did got go. Even if I had not had the previous event, I may not have gone. I think next year will be a bigger turnout than this year, as far as POA members for numerous reasons that I will not list.
I have a feeling that CJ will be put in charge by popular demand. She gets the job done. She is organized. I do not like to do the same thing over and over but every other year is long enough for me. I think the big thing is that everyone should plan on arriving in Detroit on Tue or Wed. at the latest and that way we can socialize amongst ourselves, cruise as a group without huge traffic jams, get to see the other early birds and have a blast before all heck breaks loose. Then, on Sat. we can park and watch as the parade passes by. We can do one trip up or down Woodward at some point on Sat. and not pay quite as much money for mediocre food.
This is just my opinion. CJ did not ask me to say anything and will be reading this when you do, for the first time. She might even be upset with me for posting. I can live with that, too. I hope she understands where I am coming from and I am sorry if I offended anyone. That is how I see the entire thing as it unfolded. I was not inside any loop, however.

Hi Ed,

I'm not in any loop either, and I certainly wasn't trying to give CJ a hard time. I was just sorry I didn't get to meet her! Hope you're right about next year. I'll email you back channel tomorrow, gotta hit the hay and get ready for that work thang...

Ed - Amen.

How can a group get excited about an event, if there is no excitement being generated from the organizer and no list of those wishing to attend being posted. Out side of a hula-hoop contest and a chicken leg/thigh dinner, I sat unmotivated. I'm sorry I missed this great event, but then again, I see I wasn't alone. My wooden nickel's worth

Mike, I did not think you were giving a shot to CJ and neither was I. She wasn't there for the above listed reasons. She was not needed. Hence, the results you saw first hand. I am sure everyone still had a great time but it could have been better with a better turnout.
I think people now see CJ was and is needed or at least someone else who can organize a major event. It takes a lot of work and planning and does not magically happen. You have to plan in advance so that people know what to expect. That was lacking.

Ed I have to agree with you 100% I was really looking forward to this years Woodward event and only got shut down.I emailed the organizer several times and left a message on the phone to only get no reply.I realize I didn't send the required 250 dollars but I wasn't going to take part in the event other than a hour or two on Saturday because of work scheduling isssues.NO food no hula hoop no nothing other than meeting prowler owners and their cars and a parking pass.I really wanted to see Deans car and meet him and discuss possable mods for the future, but to no advail.I couln't understand why CJ wasn't going to be on Prowler alley ,but I think you have totally cleared that up to me, anyway I also think if CJ was to take this event on for next year this would be a total success.I can't relate to you how disappointing this was to me after looking forward to this event for a whole year and now to only have to wait 363 more days to next years Wooward Dream Cruise.Lets cross ours fingers and hope that CJ will take this on (hint hint).I saw a few Prowlers on Saturday but nothing like the year before where there was 40 in a row.I didn't even see more than 3 prowlers in a row and heard in the crowd when I passed by on numberous times that the Prowler trailer was the first that they had seen and didn't even know that they were produced.I thought what a shame that I was the only Prowler with a trailer at Woodward and to boot the only Black Tie?.I hate to say this but farewell to MAKE A DIFFERANCE.Thats just my sadden feeling and I hope I don't affend anyone.Lets hope for a way better Dream Cruise next yearand alot more Prowlers to show up.

Forgot to thank Carol for the Make-A-Wish parking. Those folks that stand guard on Saginaw all day long deserve a gold star.

ppcmem972chlsr, If you were there in a Black Tie with trailer, then you were not the only Black Tie, nor the only trialer. Dr. Ru had his Woodward with matching trailer at Pike Street. And there was another Black Tie parked 3 doors down from me on Saginaw on Saturday.

Not an orange to be found, but I did see my first 'live' Inca Gold.

(another added p.s.) We had horrible camera trouble over the weekend. Had my digital camera and a video camera, Rachel had her 35mm. Her camera jammed, ruined 2-3 rolls of film fiddling with it. Stopped at Best Buy and bought a new one with zoom before heading to Saginaw. She took a whole roll of film, rewound it, opened the camera, and the film was NOT rewound and was stuck in the camera! We exchanged the camera for another new one on the way home from the cruise... but the pics from both of her cameras are history.

Based on the content of this thread, I find it necessary to offer my comments on the Dream Cruise 2002 event.

For the Dream Cruise event in 2000, Carol Schultz and I decided to do a Prowler event for the Prowler Owners. At that time, it was only the two of us organizing a very large event. Carol had to pay for the spaces that she acquired in Pontiac out of her own pocket. There was minimal involvement by the Make A Difference Foundation. She worked with the City of Pontiac procuring the spaces, arranging parades and working with Bo’s Bistro and Brewery on the food, etc. My job was to organize the extra-curricular events for the Prowler owners, which included a tour and shopping at the plant, a luncheon at a restaurant and a visit to the Harold Sullivan Car Collection on Thurs. On Friday, there was a trip to the Henry Ford Museum, dinner at Bo’s, participation in the Pontiac Parade and the Black Tee Party at Chrysler. Saturday is the official day of the Dream Cruise and everyone cruised in and out of Pontiac as they wanted. I don’t remember an exact number, but there were 30-some cars that participated that year. Planning and executing an event of this size takes a lot of hard work and money.

For 2001, Carol decided to turn over the Dream Cruise event to the Make A Difference Foundation. I offered my help, but because I am not a member of the foundation, I was not involved in any of the planning for Saturday’s event, but I was given the task to again plan the extra-curricular activities for the Prowler Owners, which I was happy to do. We had several people who were in as early as Monday of that week. We cruised Woodward every night. On Tuesday, we cruised north to a Bavarian town called Frankenmuth. We spent the day up there and cruised Woodward at night. Wednesday’s activities included a trip to Roush Racing. Thursday, we did a tour and shopping at the plant and afterward was the Cruise to Hell..........it rained, but we had our picnic anyway!! Friday, was another visit to the Harold Sullivan Museum and the Black Tee party. Saturday, of course was the Dream Cruise event. I believe there were 50+ Prowlers in attendance.

With regard to this year’s event, I want to be clear on the facts and I want all to know that I ultimately made my own decisions about my level of participation. When I contacted Carol several months ago about working on the Dream Cruise plans, I was told that it again was a Make A Difference Foundation event. My offer of help for the Saturday event was refused. I was told that I could plan any extra-curricular events for the Prowler owners if I wanted. However, Carol also relayed to me that she had been receiving emails from Prowler owners who indicated that if “CJ was going to be at the Dream Cruise event” they would not attend. I am not going into all the details of that part of the conversation, but suffice it to say that it was made clear to me that it would be better for the event if I was not there. A week or so later, I had another conversation with her and she apologized and said that she shouldn’t have told me all of that and if I wanted to attend, that was my choice.

My decision to not attend was mine. I also chose not to post that I was not attending Carol's event. It would not have been fair to cause any controversy. I know all the work and time that goes into planning these events and I did not want to jeopardize the foundation’s event. Dream Cruise is an awesome event and I think everyone should experience it at least once!!! As time progressed, it appeared that there wouldn’t be owners coming in as early as the previous year and based on the fact that production had ceased, there was no reason for me to plan any extra events. I did offer to take owners to the plant store, which I did. We did cruise Woodward and had dinner on Thursday night with those owners who were there. On Friday, we visited the plant, had lunch, drove the PT Turbo’s at DC, shopped the museum store and went to the Black Tee party. Visteon had given me an invitation to park and attend their event at Pasquale’s Restaurant at 13 and Woodward, so we chose to do that on Saturday.

I hope that all who attended Dream Cruise 2002 enjoyed their time here and will come back again. It keeps getting bigger and better!! I had a great time at Woodward and it was great seeing and spending time with a lot of you again!

Mike............On Saturday, we left 13 and Woodward about 3:00 p.m. I was tired (this darn medical thing) and hot and not feeling very well. We’d done quite a bit of cruising and walking around and I was ready to go home. We decided to make the last of the big loop which included driving north all the way down Woodward. It loops through Pontiac and out to the freeway we take to get home. The route does pass through where Carol’s event was held. I did see some of the Prowler owners as we passed through, but I was not comfortable stopping, as I did not pay for parking there. I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet you, too, but there will be other events!

ppcmem972chlsr...........I’m sorry that I didn’t get to meet you, but I did hear you calling to me as we cruised by. I turned to wave and saw you waving, but I honestly didn’t know who it was...........I do now!! There certainly was no place to pull over there!! Hopefully, you will join us for a Michigan cruise and we will get to meet then. Was that your Mulholland we saw parked in the back?

I wanted to say a couple more things.........I think Carol and the Make A Difference Foundation should be commended for all their hard work in planning their event, because it is a LOT of work.

Secondly, I think one of the big reasons attendance was down this year was because a great number of people used their vacation time to attend the Colorado event and were not able to fit in time to travel to Michigan for the Dream Cruise this year.

I am saying this, not just because CJ is a friend of mine (an I am damned proud she is) by I am appalled that anyone would tell Carol that if CJ (or anyone else) showed up they would not. Even if you have personal issues with any given member attending an Prowler Event, to boycott it is only hurting the POA, the other members, the event sponsor (in this case a Charity) and yourself.
That being said as applying to anyone in general. CJ has done as much or more than just about anyone else to support the POA and help its members. To do someting as hurtful as making a statement of this nature is way out of line and just wrong. The POA was started because the other goup became exclusionary. I am saddened to hear that this may be starting to happen here.
I am not seeking an argument or any side bars on this issue. I just had to say something. Just like everyone its my opinion and I have every right to it. To agree or disagree is your right as well, but not to the point of excluding anyone from something they love and enjoy and that includes affecting other members who may not feel the same as you about a aprticluar member, and not only don't want to see them excluded, but actually look forward to spending time with them very chance they get. To prove I don't just talk the talk, I have no real fondness for FMITBT and he probably feels the same about me, but I am still going to The Prowler Drags in LA in Oct. and I would never consider asking Laddie to exclude him from attending. He has as much right to be there as I do.
CJ, I for one appreciate everything you have done for both the POA and for me personally.
And before anyone comments or asks. We did not attend Woodward this year because I used all my vacation and budget on Prowlin the Rocky Mountains. I have done Woodward the last two years and decided to use it all on a chance to do something different and meet members from the other coast that don't usually make it to Woodward. I am off my soapbox now and that is all I have or intend to say on this subject.

Well......I'm not a Lawyer......but aren't there two sides to a story?
I didn't go to Woodward this year for a few reasons! Most of all because I've been to Detroit twice with the "old" organization. And twice to the Dream Cruise. All Woodwarded out!!!!!!!!

I don't see the option where I can delete this thread. Sorry I posted at all. I did not mean to cause any friction with anybody. CJ is obviously a gem to this group. Carol was very nice to me in setting me up for parking coming from a semi-long distance.

I'll be at Woodward in Pontiac every year as long as my cousin lives up there (Lake Orion), and maybe then some. I'd be happy to meet up with any of you on those future trips.

Again, I didn't mean to start any conflict or friction.

Mike

p.s. I don't really understand being 'Woodwarded out'. It's a one of a kind event in my mind. Being there this year, on Woodward instead of sitting along side, was icing on the cake.

Mike,

do not worry about this thread. We all have our opinion. I didn't go this year because my brakes were stuck. I had every intention of coming up on Saturday and cruising Woodward. I was really disappointed that I didn't get it fixed Friday night.

There wasn't as many BIG events the past 2 years so Woodward was THE EVENT. Just look at the events section. MAN DO WE HAVE A LOT GOING ON ALL THE TIME

In the past 2 years I didn't get down to the hot spot much. Yes, I wanted to meet the New Prowler Owners and cruise. Both can happen.

We had so many activities and that was great & without CJ they would not have happened.

The past 2 years Carol had alot on her plate to help with Make a Difference, and I apperciate all the work she did. But that was only hotel, parking and food for us, but the focus wasn't what we would do the rest of the time.

This isn't a competition, and you don't refuse a volunteer with passion to help out. To put on a several day event is A LOT OF WORK. One person cannot do it all. If we didn't care about cruising Woodward with all the other Hot Rods we could get together any other weekend.

IF there is a Prowler get together next year at Woodward I would like to have as many Prowlers there as possible. The Black Tie event is a good Friday night event. To have a spot closer to 13~14 miles would be better. If we could plan far enough in advance and get that arranged I would be in.
If all possible I will be cruising Woodward with or without the Prowler but one way or another I want to be on it.

You cannot please everyone all the time

This is my opinion and I hope no one is offended by my opinion

Mike - Do not feel sorry you posted this thread. The POA was founded on the basis of free speech to all of the associates. You made an observation and stated the facts as you seen them,,,,nothing wrong with that. We are here as a group, a team, an association of Prowler owners to interact with each other for enjoyment, create new friendships, advance our understanding of the Prowler, and state our views as we see them. Not everyone is going to agree on all topics, events, and statements made by other people,,,,,,just a fact of life. My opinion is that we all can share this forum to get whatever you personally want out of it. If there are people you don't want to relate to on the website, just ignore them and their statements, life will go on and one can still benefit from the vast knowledge attributed to just keeping up with current or previous threads available. The events organized are a added bonus! Fun times, meeting new people, and formulating new friendships can be a fulfilling adventure in life. I enjoy this website (guess it shows), and have gained a tremendous amount of information and have created many new friendships, that I value immensely.

I just got home last night from Woodward, a day late but I made it. First I would like to say thank you to Carol and her team for putting together a great event! As far as the food and the staff at Pike Street you guys could not have done anymore to make this event fail, I was at Pike Street with Carol on friday and these people did not do what they said they would. Second, CJ was great seeing you and Bob again and it was great you rolled out the Red Carpet and Hair to make people feel welcome and to show them the Conner Ave Plant and to take them out and about during the day and to make sure they made the Black Tee party ( I kind of remeber some of it). I will attend Woodward again next year and I will hang out up in Pontiac unless we can get a group spot farther down. I would love to see everyone stay at 1 place and CJ posted about the Homested Suites this was a nice place and had a large lot in the back that we could put 100 cars if we needed to. Carol could we drop the Pike Street lot and see about spots as a group in the large lot across the street? we do not need the food or bar they offer as the street is covered in them and they have the doors open before noon. The reason I like Pontiac is it is easy in and out if a group wants to cruise farther down Woodward they can ( like we did last year ) that and the fact if you want to go burn the tires off your car you can as long as you dont do something stupid. These are just my thoughts but we had a great thing last year with the trip to Hell, Conner Ave the late night Prowler chats in the parking lot it was great fun.

Bob.........glad you made it back okay. It was good seeing you again, too! I'm surprised that you remember ANY of the Black Tee party. Let's see if I can help you...do you remember doing the hula hoop thing? Not bad...and do you remember trying to drag me out on the dance floor? Good thing ONE of us was sober! LOL!

Oh yeah.......your shirt is on it's way! Should be there in a couple of days.

Well.... All I can say is ...

It was a GREAT time (for me, and my bud Jim)

Meeting CJ & Bob, KenG, Mr&Mrs Hack, John, ViperJohn, George&son from Texas, Mr&MsBHavin', (others?) chatting 'on the Ave" with Bob & Mr/Mrs Dean was awesome.. as were THEIR cars...

Yeah, spending tooooo much money at the Conner Store, seeing the new viper... (ditched on the Black Tee.. had to CRUISE!)...
It was all FANTASTIC... and definitely will be back.

I've been a car 'nut' all my life, and can honestly say that it would be tough to say that in that life (LONG TIME! lol) that I have not seen as many cool cars/rods in that total lifetime as I did in 3 days at Woodward!

the cars.... ALLLL of em.... Fantastic....

Thanks CJ... You're as great a hostess as you are a "Storerunner" for us all.
Thanks BOB for your 'too tired to poop' but STILL hanging in with us all day Friday!

It was great!

Bob G, Parking for the main lot is $25 There is no assigned parking spaces (Prowler owners could save each other spots next to each other if they get there early) and they only sell so many permits for the main lot. So if you want in the main lot you have to sign up early.~Robert
