A long while back there was a lot of post about putting silecone on the back side of the tabs on the wheel caps (I think) can anyone help with this and will it work to help the brakage problem of the tabs? Happy Prowlin ------------------ |

Curtis, I used silicone on the back of my broken cap fingers after re~glueing with cyanoacrylate. A bead along the inside worked for me. I havn't had them off in a year so I dont know how many others are broken. I think others used hot glue from a glue gun. I prefer the silicone because it wont be affected by heat, but will have to cure overnight. I kinda thought after looking at them that a glob between the tab and the pin would act like a coushin so that they couldnt bend back far enough to brake. of the four new I got today two had been broken befor I picked them up at the dealer, but only need to replace two at the moment thanks Butchee Happy Prowlin |

Curtis - those were one-time, free emails I sent you!! The MAD MAX HOT GLUE system makes them nearly impossible to destroy or break! Don't ever let MadMax know you used his treatment, as he now is charging $5 per cap for its' use Glad to have helped. |

Has anyone had problems with this treatment. It seemed to work well, but earlier this week I lost three of my center caps. It was about 96-98 degrees and all the glue got loose. Luckly they only fell off in a buddy's driveway. |

I use a 2 part epoxy on my caps and never had a problem. |

PO2001 - its 110 degrees everyday in Arizona, and all of us here that have used the MADMAX Hot Glue Treatment have NOT had any problems. You have to let the glue cure for a day or so after putting on,,,,,,,,and build the glue on both sides of the tabs and up the tab support shaft. |

I'm confused. Are you gluing them together before or after they break? Need help, pics, etc. Thanks! Mike |

Mike, I repaired mine AFTER they broke. Again, I used the silicone for reinforcement after gluing with an industrial Crazy Glue. Hot glue does not need curing as all you're doing is melting the stick, and then it air cools. There are different melting points for different sticks. On the site I saw, they ranged from 120-255 deg. As these caps are becoming rare, I'd use the best possible stuff to strengthen up the tabs. JMO |

One more question... how do you apply the silicone? Is it in a toothpaste like tube, or in a caulking gun type tube? Thanks. Mike |

Mike, I used the small tube. A new tube should be enough to do all 4 caps with a heavy bead on the back of all the tabs. i think I roughed up the surface for a better bond-long time ago. |
