In the June 21-23 weekend copy of the USA Today, the Cover Story article was titled, "Baby Boomers splurge on 'road candy,' just for fun" The article talked about the growing number of people who are buying "toy" cars, which can be their third, fourth or more vehicle. "Baby boomers today range in age from 38 to 56", marketing consultant Dennis Keene says. "That's a lot of nests empty of kids for the first time, a lot of midlife crises, a lot of early retirements with big payoffs, and a lot of inheritances being realized from their World War II parents. It all adds up to extra cars, and cars that are more toy and indulgence than mere conveyance....And there is a growing "What am I waiting for?" attitude among peple who can afford it." The article talked about the types of vehicles being bough in different price ranges and models. They gave a list of the convertibles people were buying and vehicles thst they can fall in love with, not just decide on. Lots of different luxury cars and sports cars were mentioned. "Perhaps the best example of a popular vehicle that provides attitude and emotion is the PT Cruiser, designed to resemble a 1940s police cruiser.........." But NOWHERE in this whole page article was Prowler mentioned once as one of the "eye candy" cars! Obviously..........THEY DON"T GET IT!!! I'll say they "don't get it" Maybe the problem is that who ever wrote the article could not get a prowler or afford it so...jealouscy took over....LOL ------------------ |

CJ, I found this article in Bangor, ME on our C-17 flight home from the Middle East. (You may recall my earlier pleas for help in convincing my wife to let me buy the Prowler.) Linda could not understand why I wanted the Kat when we had a new PT Cruiser. I used this article to show her that I wasn't alone and my "obsession" with the Kat was "normal." Of course we picked-up our Mulholland from the dealer the next day and now have over 600 miles on the car. Linda was right, it gets more attention then I expected. Last night she surprised me when she suggested adding neon lights under the car for evening cruises. Jim B. |

I've been trying to tell my wife to drive the prowler or the '63 Vette and she has refused. I think she been in both cars no more than twice since last July '01. ------------------ |

I think the problem is not that they didn't mention us, but the fact that most people don't even realize that the Prowler exists, or if they do see it, think it's a custom car. I like the anonymity myself. Keeps em guesing |

That's funny.... To me a PT Cruiser is just an old regular run of the mill car, just like a Neon.... It would be a nice car to have as a daily beater though..... |

To mouth off on the PT front....It's not a Neon, but it can be a really fun daily transportation car or much more than that if you want. It's not what I would call a "beater", more fun to drive for me than other cars (excluding my Prowler of course), 4 seats, 4 doors, head room, storage room, family room (room for). Loads of aftermarket accessories to customize the car, or kind of fun just left stock. I drive 60 miles round trip to work a day, and while the Neon might be a good choice for the LA freeways, its not for me, the PT would is a good choice. |

Let me clarify what I meant by my statement... I can purchase a new PT here in my area for around $15k. Yes the PT is much nicer than a neon, but it's still a car off a mass production assembly line... And at $15k, that makes a nice daily driver (beater).... |

No Marty, my beater is the best looking one on the road. CJ, I did spot a Prowler on SpeedVision the other night. They were interviewing a Chrysler exec and showed the Prowler! Mike |

Based on what butchcee said, keep them guessing. I like the rarity of the Kat. Don't get mad---be glad the prowler is as elusive as the name implies! |

Time to jump back into this thread. I told my wife about the "girls night out" and she reminded me that I promised to let her drive it to visit with her friends next week. I guess I lost this battle before I left the assembly area. We'll look at participating in an upcoming Prowler event -- perhaps something here in Texas. |

quote: Yep - until my daughter turns 18 next year and that BIG monthly check stops going out! After driving the KAT daily for over a year, everytime (not often) I drive another vehicle, I can't wait to get back into my KAT. I may just drive it daily it even after I cna afford to keep it as a weekend car. I just couldn't make myself buy some real "breater" to drive in the winter. Due to my work travel scedule in Jan/Feb I only drove the KAT in snow one time anyway. Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |
