Last week while traveling from the Las Vegas airport to the hotel, we passed a car rental lot; to my shock, sorrow and chagrin, there on the first row sat a yellow Kat with a FOR RENT sign across it's windshield. Seeing this reminded me of how I might feel if I'm driving thru the Red Light District of town and spot my daughter working as a hooker. Later at the hotel I discovered an ad for this rental agency and called it to learn they have four Kats in their fleet renting for 229.00 each per day. They have ZO6's for 299.00 per day. They also rent Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Ferrari,Viper and Lamborghinis for 2,000.00 each. Even though the Kat is in some fast Company, it was a letdown to observe this. I'm thinking I am one of a few privileged to own the Kat, and then discover they are treated as commonly as Chevys and Fords in the rental car fleet. Anyone else seen this? Am I overreacting? |

We have a luxury car rental company called Driven Image here in Clearwater, FL that rents vettes, hummers, jags, vipers, new thunderbirds, porsches, and a prowler(orange). The prowler rents for $250/day, Viper RT10 for $449.00/day and the Viper GTS & GTSACR for $549.00/day. The prowler is by far gone more often than any of the other cars. Sad to see the nose is banged up, but at least people that otherwise couldn't afford to buy one can receive the enjoyment that we are lucky to get anytime we want to. I bet if I wasn't lucky enough to own one, I surely would have rented (at least) one by now ------------------ |

Look at it this way... when someone can profit from their own labor and we have a free market economy, sometimes someone creates something that is really special and sells it to others to enjoy, AKA a Prowler... in this type of economy, others can and will profit from this cars existance... such as renting them out. If we did not have this type of economy, you'd not have a Prowler because no one would have bothered to make it. ------------------ |

I saw them in Hawaii on two different islands 2 or 3 years ago. They were in sad shape back then. I guess the salt air does not help the aluminum frame as far as looks go. ------------------ |

Few people ever get to drive one. WE ARE LUCKY..but even as lucky as we are how many people got to test drive the car. If you was trying to decide what car you would like wouldn't you want to drive it? Me I didn't care, it was a had to have it. For anyone debating between 2 or more cars should rent one (no matter what it is)if possible to find out if they really like it. And my guess they are only in tourist areas that draw BIG $$$$ ------------------ |

In a way it does seem sad to see a Prowler as a rental, because you can be pretty sure that most of the rentals aren't very well taken care of. However, there are several other ways you can look at this. 1. It affords the opportunity for someone who won't ever be able to purchase a Prowler to drive one for a day or two. 2. It makes a good test drive vehicle for someone who is considering purchasing a Prowler but not sure (and of course, convinces them they need to have one!). 3. It eases withdrawal symptoms for Prowler Owners who are somewhere that they couldn't take their own cat!!! |

There is a car rental company down here that rents one I think for about the same price. But lets face it maybe it's sad to see one for rent BUT It is at a exotic Car rental place, not enterprise. This somewhat makes me feel a little special like they have to rent an exotic to drive what we have! ------------------ |

Budget rents one in Memphis, TN. Since I am often there on business I had considered renting one prior to purchase. The cost was $175 /day plus .55 /mile after 100 miles. All this with just a $5000 deposit. These folks said EVERY driver has paid $150 to repaint the lower fascia. Theirs too was yellow and it is a real attention getter among the sea of rental agencies. The first prowler I drove was mine AFTER purchasing the car. Gordon |

I think it is just fine. As most have said, it gives someone who is thinking of buying one the chance to really appreciate what we have every day. Plus they can find out where the NOSE is before they get there own. Since I've only seen one at a rental place I was impressed and the car next to it was a Porsche and a Lexus. Not as sharp as the Prowler but in pretty good company I would say. Just keep in mind YOURS you can drive daily and smile the rental is ONLY for a short duration. We have the better deal!! ------------------ |

I too seen them in Hawaii, they we're yellow 99's and one purple with painted rims and very abused nose ect. I think the red dirt and salt air plays hell with the Kat. But I think it's good to have the opportunity to be able to try one before buying one, I got to sit in one at the auto show here in Vancouver a year before mine finally showed up, after that the wait was even harder LOL PK |

My wife & I have always dreamed of getting a Viper so for my birthday in February while vacationing in Hawaii, she surprised me with renting a '00 Viper in Maui. It was our first time driving one and it was awesome. The next day at a different island (Kauai) the second part to my b-day gift was renting a '99 Yellow Prowler. I never thought much of a prowler until I drove one. Wow. Had to have one. Just got our '02 Candy last week! (We didn't have the opportunity of even test driving the new one so I'm glad we did drive one before dropping the $ down) This '02 was even better than we expected...more options, 3 miles on it, untouched, etc!) The rental fee was very reasonable, about $250 for the day for each car. It was a chance of a lifetime for us to try these two cars out. We were disappointed in the lack of respect from other renters...these cars were in rough shape. The dealers didn't keep them clean, polished are cared for...it was sad that these exotic cars were in poor condition. (I keep our vehicles immaculate so everything jumped out at me) From a distance, they looked the ultimate but the close up would shock ya. If we wouldn't have rented the prowler, I wouldn't considered getting one. I always thought they were neat but not overly interested. I'm a different man now. The prowler was to replace my wife's '95 Z28 Convertible but as soon as the Candy Kat was delivered to us...I had to have it. She's looking at the Z06 or Viper now but also considering matching prowlers! |

Rog, Go with the matching Prowlers. We always get plenty of looks and attention with the Prowler, but when my wife and I pull in with two we always generate a crowd. One word for it—awesome! |

Now that I've read some of the responses, especially Rog, I don't feel as badly as I initially did. Some of you were sold on the Kat precipitated by a rental. That's terrific. Thanks for the enlightenment; We country boys can learn some new sometimes. |
