It was a BEAUTIFUL weekend in Southern California -- too good to let it go by without a spin in the prowler. Took a ride through the mountains in Orange County and stopped by Cook's Corners to wet my whistle.

I noticed the temperature in the digital readout in the review mirror -- 93 degrees! By the way, any of you guys know where the temperature sensor is located? In the dash? Under the hood? It seems to do a reliable job of measuring the outside air temp without measuring the engine compartment temp. CJ, you gotta know this.

Located in front behind the grille. Mike posted awhile ago that it also is used to regulate the charge your battery receives.

Whatever you do - don't ever clean it with some kind of solution like armor all.... I had my Durango detailed once and they armor all'ed my engine compartment (I hate that stuff) and they did the sensor too - It kept reading 60 degrees in 100 degree weather. Had to clean it with alchohol to fix it.

EDIT: Located the picture and the thread... Enjoy

Howler --
Sorry, I won't be going on the cruise this weekend. I had planned on going, but then other plans got in the way. Being that you're in Costa Mesa (only a few miles away), we'll have to get together sometime for an impromptu cruise.

Batcliff --
Thanks for the info and the heads up on avoiding that area with Armor All (or anything that could screw up the sensor). So is that it, in the very front, on the upper of the two square-channel braces?

Funny, I was just under the car for the first time yesterday evening changing the oil (and filter). I noticed that the horns were mounted low in the very front too. I was also checking out what I would have to detach/reattach for a SSS muffler.

Okay, so I don't come across as a big idiot -- that GIANT blue arrow didn't appear the first time...

My reply from DC:

Its located on one of the frame hoops in front of the battery. This sensor has been located there since day one for the engine controller input. The 2000-2MY took the same input but had it read out on the mirror.
