Well, I don't recall who mentioned this but yes the little squeegee they give you scratches the hell out of the protector. I'm a little ticked cuz for $65.00 I just ruined my protector. The kit should include a better squeegee and 2nd protector in case the 1st gets damaged. I think I might call and see what they can do. Hopefully Z-5 will fill in the scratches. I also hope this thing looks much better when dry cuz I went over it many times to make sure all of the water and air were out and there's what looks like residue in some spots. I imagine the stuff dries clear so that should go away. I hope. Anyone else with similar problems? |

Nope, you are pressing to hard. Just enough pressure to smooth the protector. It is self-leveling. That means when it is dry, it conforms to the shape. Also what you think are scratched is just impressions or residue from the squeegee and protector. If you uses a rubber squeegee, you will extract all the adhesive too. Really a soft towel works good too. I even used a credit card Wait till completely dry and use a cleaner wax. Sassy. |

Sassy, they're actually scratches. One actually went to the paint which ticks me off. *It ran off the protector* The other thing is I cleaned the area very well but my garage is sort of dark. It wasn't until this morning I noticed a bunch of small air bubbles and some were from lint underneath. Almost impossible to see with poor lighting. But very noticeable in the daytime. A question I have which was never answered by the Z Graphics guy is how difficult is it to take this off? Will it harm the paint if I try to remove it? If not I may take it off and try again to get the small bubbles out. |

Just a word of caution to those of you contemplating these deck lid protectors ... Corvette used to install them on convertibles in the mid to late 80's. Problem was, the clear ones would yellow from the sun, and both the clear and black ones would curl, crack and fade in general. Not to mention that the paint color underneith the protector will be different from the rest of the car if you ever remove the thing from you car ... buyer beware is all, and good luck. |

amcmahon, as many defects as you have with the protector I would remove it ASAP, if you use a hair dryer and warm up the protector it should come off fairly easy. I know in the past clear plastic film has yellowed like Ray said, the newer film might have a better UV rating but I'm not sure if it's been tested. |

The material Zole uses does not yellow. Technology today in vinyl and plastics are much better than they were even 5 years ago. And in time, if they do crack, which will be many years, just replace it. Sassy |

So it does come off fairly easy then? Just a hair dryer? I forgot to mention while this is almost invisible on some colors(yellow, silver) it is very noticeable on Candy Red. Just something to keep in mind for others. I feared it might be on a darker surface. The lighter colors camouflage it some. |

Just keep the hair dryer going over the protector as you pull it off, don't rush it but keep a steady pull on it while heating the protector up. AS I sad before it would be wise to remove ASAP before it sets anymore. Good luck. Al |

Anyone have the link to the other person offering the black rear deck prtector? Seen it recently, but can't find it now. Thanks in advance. |

Alley Cat, I think that black protector was only in black to show what the protector looks like and where it goes. It's actually supposed to be clear no matter what color car it's on. Scratch that.... Just found what you were talking about. It's called DekProTec. You can find it in the Free Classifieds section. This message has been edited by amcmahon on 04-13-2002 at 01:57 AM |

Alley Cat look in the free classified section under DeckPro Tec. For a link and a picture. This is the one I'm going to try, and the price is better. To order DekProTec..... Specify the removable DekProTek in black (as shown)or white. Other colors available(not removable!) Send $31.00 personal check, money order, or PayPal transfer along with your name and complete address to: Tectrum Sales N25 W5280 Polk St. Cedarburg, WI 53012 ------------------ |

I went to a body shop and had a pro put mine on! Looks better than having lots of scratches on the decklid. I have the Candyred, the darker the color the more you will see scratches if you dont put it on... |

I need to correct the decklid comment made by amcmahon earlier regarding DekProTec. DekProTec is not clear and does not claim to be. The copy should be pretty clear on that issue. The color choices are black, white for the removable kind. All other colors are slightly more costly. The primary concern over the scratching comes as a result of trying to apply the vinyl without a mask. The supplied mask on the DekProTec is the surface on which the squeegee's pressure is applied, not the vinyl directly. These vinyls have a reasonable life but WILL scratch from that kind of rubbing, i. e., with a rubber or plastic squeegee. For the record, DekProTec does not recommend ever applying the squeegee directly. Should you find an area where you need to reapply the squeegee for a 2nd time, we include a plastic "mask" for correcting small imperfections. Hey Paul, I don't have the DeckProTek. I was pointing someone else to the black DPT. The one I have, which I started this thread about is clear and is made by Z Graphics. It's called a Deck Lid Protector. It was the first deck protector made for our cars. Yours is the 2nd I've seen. I'm thinking of trying one of yours but I'm waiting to see how mine turns out and what others have to say about DPT. |
