January 28, 2002 / 3:30am (PST) A new virus has been detected. The virus, named WORM_MYPARTY.A, propagates via windows-based email. If you receive an email where the subject of the email is "new photos from my party!", please delete it immediately. This mass-mailing (spam) worm sends itself to anyone in an infected user's address book. This means that you may receive the virus from a number of different users. However, the subject title, body of the email message and the attachment name will be consistent: Subject: new photos from my party! Body: My party... It was absolutely amazing! Attachment: (www).myparty.yahoo.com (note: actually link will not have parentheses around www) If you receive an email with the above attributes please delete the email without opening the attachment. If you do not open the attachment you will not be infected. Additionally, if you receive an email from anyone containing attachments ending in .bat, .com, or .exe that you did not expect to receive, please do not open the attachment until you have confirmed with the sender that these files are not infected. I got three of them myself today. I got some virus last week that I opened, so I learned my lesson. My Norton caught it, thank goodness. The three I got today, I just deleted right away. If I don't know the sender I just delete it now. |

I've been having some major problems with my computer the last several weeks to the point I was ready to toss it out the window!! Kept crashing, among other things. Had a tech out yesterday who discovered that I had 6 different viruses. One in particular was called "Goner". It disables your virus protection software and then, everything else gets in!!! Everything is fixed now, but Norton caught the one Dan is talking about. Have gotten 6 messages from the same person!  |

I was offline yesterday scrubbing W32.sircom off my computer and trying to get the darn thing to work again. It was in an e-mail attachment my wife received. Famous last words "I didn't open it - I only clicked on it" When I see such a flurry of virus/worms I can't help but think of the week or two before 9-11. The amount of viruses and worms was unbelievable then. When I see high activity I just wonder if it is some type of precursor. ------------------ |
