Just got the report back on the paint on my Kat from the head Siekens man. They have to on his findings strip the entire car to the first factory primmer coat or completly down to bare metal even because they painted mine 2 times at the factory and it wasn't prepped right from their findings. The second coats were'nt done right and they never set up causing the new paint to pinch up as they call it. Looks worse than bad case of orange peal under the clear coat and getting worse all the time. The rep after me telling him that the paint chipped very easily figured that was why because it was soft under the clear coat never really hardened. This could be some of you others problem also, he figured when I told him I'd heard other say they thought their paint chipped to easily. Still waiting for the big DC rep to give the approval to go ahead with the work, HOPE IT'S NOT GOING TO BE A BIG FIGHT. So I won't be going to Crater Lake in Sept now, not to happy right now as I was really looking forward to that trip. PK |

Keith, sorry to hear all of that bad news. Does it appear they are going to fix it at their expense? If so, that is at least a little sunlight on the horizon. Borrow Big Bill's cat for the trip. lol |

Keith, sounds like you were able to get a concise diagnosis, hope that it works in resolving the problem. I remember you saying you waited a long time for the car and certainly don't need this agony. Good luck! ------------------ |

That's for sure there Mike almost 3 1/2 yrs, they did a solvent test and the only paint that showed up on the cloth was the second coat from the factory so I hope that's enough to convince them it's a warranty problem. Thks CJ will have to see how this week plays out with DC. Has anyone that has went on the tour get to see any of the Kat's getting painted, from what I'm told by the sieken's man they are all painted by hand and our Kat's are done in PPG while the Viper's are done with sieken's I wonder why??? PKeith, last year when we went thru the plant we understood that everything was painted elsewhere and simply assembled at CAAP. We were not part of the Woodward Cruise when we went thru the plant. I also talked to a young guy in Indiana who stated that he worked at a place that painted the Prowler parts. I doubt if that has changed but I am sure someone will post and give you better info. We did not see anything that resembled a paint booth. |

PK - The tubs, side panels, hood and decklid are painted at MSX. They are PPG paint. Other miscellaneous parts such as the mirrors are painted by the part vendors. No painting is done at CAAP. ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! |
