Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how do you get out of the driver's seat of your kat with the top down? Do you turn to the left and pull yourself out with the wheel, or do you turn to the right and back out? I don't like pulling on the wheel and feel a bit self-conscious exiting posterior first!

Having had knee replacement surgery in January this is a chore for me still. It is getting better each month but I am still having difficulty bending my left knee enough to get my foot out of the door.

Keep in mind - I have a 36 inch inseam so my legs are looong. Here is what I currently do.

I lift my butt up by pushing myself against the back of the seat and then get my left foot outside on the ground. I then put my left hand on the frame just in front of the deck lid and push myself up while twisting my right leg and bending it.

Getting in is much easier. I just step into the car and sit down (sliding my butt down the back of the seat until I am firmly planted).

turn left...left hand on door sill...pull left leg out
and place on terra firma...this gets the rest of the
body moving in the correct direction...give a push
outwards with the left hand...the loud pop means you
have successfully ejected yourself from the auto.

Having been to Grand Canyon Tour and Deadwood, I can attest that a lot of people that post here, need to go on a diet. Thank God, I am naturally slim. To avoid negative feedback, I am not talking about any of you fat women.

quite simple really. anytime you get out, move steering wheel to upper position. thats what adjustable steering column is for ! you can use steering wheel to help if needed. real easy !!!

Oh. . .I jump in like Bo and Luke Duke. . .Well. . .Don't try that with the top up though. . .lol.

I personally swing open the door turn left, place my left foot out, put my right hand on the steering wheel and my left hand around the back of the seat area and which both hands pushing I spring up every quickly. . .It works great for me, while I watch my passenger struggle for a couple of minutes getting out of the otherside of the car.

I am 6 foot 2, and I am a newbie to the Prowler, but this technique has worked very well for me, and getting out looks very smooth and purposeful.

Good luck!

Paul

Paul - I will try your method. Should I lube the seat edge and steering wheel first?

The steering wheel really tilts up? Will try that also!

Keith and Todd - you like my way to exit? It is humorous!

The simple directions for exiting a Prowler.
Here is how I get out of my Prowler with the top up.

1. First I stop the car.
2. Pull the emergency brake.
3. Push the transmission forward to Park.
4. Remove the key.
5. Find the key won't come out.
6. Go back and this time move the gearshift from R to P.
7. Pull out the key.
8. Key won't come out so try to turn on the key.
9. Key won't turn on so I put my foot on the brake.
10. Turn the key on then off.
11. Now pull out the key.
12. Open door to exit.
13. Find the window is still down.
14. Put the key back in the ignition and turn it on.
15. Close the door.
16. Hit the switch to raise the window.
17. Find I just locked the car so push the other switch to raise the window.
18. After it finally goes up.
19. Remove the key again.
20. Open the door again.
21. Put my left foot on the ground outside of the car.
22. Lean over to the center console.
23. Put most of my weight on my elbow to raise up.
24. Hear the center console crack.
25. Now, put most of my weight on my left foot. Feel it slip out from under me. If the ground is slippery or wet, I can't get footing.
26. Push the right foot down also to enable the raising and swinging of the butt out the door.
27. Watch the mat go more and more forward each time I exit.
28. Push with my right hand on the center console to try and egress.
29. Swing my right leg out.
30. Hit the steering wheel with my right leg.
31. Now, with both feet on the ground back out of the car.
32. Watch the expressions on the faces of people who watched me exit. (priceless)
